We are looking for a HR Generalist to join our Peterson Aluminum team in Elk Grove Village, IL.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting and managing all functions of HR for Petersen Aluminum's employees across 2 locations. These functions include recruitment and retention, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, training, payroll, compensation, safety, and benefits. Partner with managers to provide an employee oriented culture involving high standards related to quality, productivity, employee engagement, employee relations, safety, performance goal attainment, development and recruitment of well qualified candidates. Coordinate implementation of company benefits, services, polices, and programs in conjunction with the Regional HR Manager and Director of Operations.

Up to 20% overnight travel to be expected.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive all HR activities to meet company objectives

  • Provides guidance and coaching to Leadership, relating to employee concerns, programs, and disciplinary action to comply with company policies

  • Responsible for recruitment, selection, and retention of all employees (hourly and salary). Work closely with leadership to identify and track required staffing levels

  • Partner with temporary labor agencies as needed to meet production staffing levels

  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance management, safety, and sexual harassment

  • Conducts wage surveys to determine competitive wage rate within the market

  • Presence in on the plant floor for employee concerns with open door policy

  • Provide resources for assisting staff with developing a workforce involving performance plans, company goals, and improvement systems. Develop training and people development resources and programs with input from staff. Requires collaboration and partnering.

  • Assist leadership with growth and development of highly skilled workforce

  • Responsible for communicating with staff and employees on employee orientation process, company benefit programs and all company communications including handbook and HR policies

  • Foster teamwork, team accomplishments and encourage involvement and interaction among team members across the workforce

  • Responsible for assisting staff in safety and regulatory compliance

  • Work with management in developing social events and employee activities to foster recognition and nurture a positive working environment

  • Provide HR counseling and listening ear for employees and problem solving process in conjunction with leadership team. Hold confidences as priority.

  • Ensure compliance with governmental regulations, such as: Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), etc.

Skills/Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required in HR or related field.

  • 3-5 years of HR Management experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment

  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements and safety efficiencies in manufacturing is required (OSHA, FLSA, ADA, Workers Comp, Unemployment, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability as a change agent

  • Previous supervision and leadership experience

  • The ability to build partnerships, interact and communication at all levels within the company, as well as the ability to adjust to different situations is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
