Under moderate supervision with some periods of autonomy provides clerical and administrative support to one or more functional areas of Human Resources such as recruitment and staffing, personnel records, employee or labor relations, compensation, benefits, training, and/or equal opportunity/affirmative action. Duties include checking personnel-related documents for accuracy and completeness, maintaining files and records of a confidential nature, and preparing periodic standardized reports.


  • Performs tasks such as setting up files on all new personnel, photographing for badges, obtaining employee numbers for new employees, and recording changes on all employee status changes as necessary (e.g., change of address, departmental transfers, rate increases, terminations, etc.).

  • Processes applications, employment forms, enrollment forms, pay change requests, informational and other confidential forms and records. Enrolls new employees in various programs and explains benefits.

  • Maintains and distributes, as appropriate, current employee information, policy and procedure manuals, and other communications.

  • Compiles data from personnel records and prepares reports.

  • Verifies payroll entries and changes with computer printout. Checks for accuracy and reports any discrepancies to higher level personnel.

  • Tracks employee information such as personal data, compensation, benefits, tax data, attendance, performance reviews or evaluations, and termination date and reason. Processes employment applications and assists in other employment activities.

  • Updates employee files to document personnel actions and to provide information for payroll and other uses.

  • Assists with participation and summary of internal and external surveys to gather information for policy development and planning.

  • Computes wages and records data for use in payroll processing. May enter data into SAP for processing.

  • Performs pre-employment screenings and responds to routine questions on human resources policies and procedures; notifies higher level personnel of any potential issues and grievances, etc. Assist with the administration and scoring of aptitude, personality, and interest tests.

  • Orders office supplies to support human resources operations and various special events.

  • May perform new hire orientations.



Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).


Typically requires a minimum of 3 year of related experience.

This position will complete various projects throughout the year. Key Accountabilities: * Track and evaluate returned goods (RGA's) and decide the appropriate actions or disposition to be taken. Communicate with the appropriate departments concerning all RGA's (scrap, rework, issue credit, etc.). * Communicate to inventory control for adjustment of inventory in regard to returned goods. * Various projects working with purchasing dealing with Supplier Quality management. * Determine when incoming product should be flagged for inspection. * Enter the item number, PO number and quantity received on "special items" that have been flagged for inspection into appropriate computer modules. * Design and implement forms for inspection, testing and accept/reject criteria. * Various projects gathering data using quality tools: frequency, histograms, Pareto Analysis, scatter diagrams and control charts. Then issue reports to various departments. * Various projects developing and helping engineering draw various fixturing and gauges for new products and various older products. * Various projects dealing with development, design and testing of new products for engineering. * As a member of the Material Review Board, various projects performing root cause analysis, process improvements, mistake proof process (poka-yoke), immediate and intermediate actions. * As a member of the ISO Internal audit team, conduct audits on different departments and/or procedures and report findings, if any, to the lead auditor. * Follow-up and determine the effectiveness of Corrective & Preventative Action Request. * Set up appointments for calibration for CM's two vertical (tension) pull test machines, one horizontal (tension) pull test machine and two hardness testers that are performed annually by outside sources. * Have the load cells from the ratchet dept., lever binder and fall protection cells taken to an outside source for calibration semi-annually. Maintain the records of these calibrations in the QA department. * Fill out and log non-conforming material reports on all items that do not meet required specifications. * Attaches the non-conforming material report to the non-conforming product and notifies the appropriate departments. * Assists sales and engineering with customer complaints or technical questions they may have including contacting and answering questions customers may have. * Assists Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence teams with various problems, procedures, forms or work instructions. * Conduct visual, dimensional and strength tests on items purchased by the Government from Dixie Industries. Generate and distribute the appropriate forms for these requirements. * Purchase and obtain specifications as needed on a customer basis. * Write and issue Quality Change Notices to the appropriate supervisor and departments. Competencies: Knowledge of how to setup the vertical and horizontal (tension) testers to ensure fixturing integrity will be strong enough to pull the desired load. Success Measures: Must have a good understanding of various products at Columbus McKinnon such as how WLL (working load limit), MBS (minimum breaking strength) and how various specifications affect various products in order to communicate effectively with various customer complaints and questions. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Complete and pass the ASQ Certified Quality Technician Course & Exam. Technical Degree or equivalent work preferred. Must be fluent with Solid Works, Excel, and Word. Must be able to use different gauges and testing equipment: tape measure, micrometers, calipers, depth gauge, refractometer, hardness tester, and tension testers. Must be able to read and interpret drawings / blueprints. Must have understanding of tolerances. Must be able to convert decimals, do simple trig functions and perform simple statistical calculations. Must possess good oral and written communication skills. Must have mechanical ability and an understanding of forging and secondary operations such as: drilling, threading, tapping, powder coating, sawing, grinding tumbling, shot blasting and riveting. Special Position Requirements: The employee is subject to periodic noise from the adjacent plant areas. Typical office conditions. When in the plant areas, the employee is exposed to some disagreeable elements and the hazard of mobile equipment moving in close areas. Work Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate orally and to hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers keyboarding data to computer, operating calculator, fax and copy machines and various gauges. The employee is regularly required to stand or squat and to reach with hands and arms while retrieving and filling records. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time and to walk the entire length of the plant at any time. The employee must occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision reading terminal screens and gauges, entering data and reading blueprints and product information. Band saw, various grinders and drills, presses, tension test machines, hardness testers, calipers, micrometers, refractometers, depth gauge, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant.
