The HR Compliance Senior Consultant provides support, guidance, and reporting on a range of HR compliance, employee leaves of absence, and work accommodation matters. They ensure that employee focused policies and practices are aligned with applicable federal, state and local laws. Additionally, the HR Compliance Senior Consultant conducts periodic internal reviews and audits to ensure compliance with HR policies, processes and laws.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Identifies new and changing federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, enforcement activity, and best practices. Analyzes company HR compliance risk and recommends changes to HR policies, practices and procedures as appropriate to maintain compliance with applicable laws.

  • Develops and maintains, with the guidance of the Leader of Employee Relations, an HR Compliance program that is consistent with federal, state and local employment laws.

  • Conducts internal compliance audits. Analyzes and interprets data and trends, recommends process corrections and improvements, and manages responses to audit inquiries from external regulatory agencies.

  • Manages mandatory employee regulatory reporting, including pay equity and EEO-1 filings, to ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

  • Maintains accurate and confidential records related to HR compliance activities including audits results, changes to employee handbooks and policies, and employee salary data.

  • Manages annual compliance-based employee training programs including, but not limited to, sexual harassment and bystander intervention training. Tracks to ensure required employee trainings are assigned and completed, submitting required government reports.

  • Serves as a liaison to the Corporate Compliance team and collaborates on matters that cross over both HR Compliance and Corporate Compliance.

  • Point of contact and subject matter expert for Leaves of Absence and Work Accommodations Center of Excellence. Reviews and resolves complex leave requests and work accommodations requests.

  • Serves as key contact for HR record retention and destruction policies and procedures, personnel file requests, various document production requests.

  • Assists with business as usual and special initiatives including, but not limited to, background check adjudication, employee lifecycle notices, DEI index rating responses, USCIS Form I-9s, poster and notice requirements, and compliance process improvements.

  • May perform additional duties as assigned.

Typically Director or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, HR, and leave laws as well as HR best practices.

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex laws and regulations relating to HR and employees. Demonstrated ability to apply that understanding to develop compliance program strategy and/or written policies and procedures

  • In-depth knowledge of absence management and leave administration (STD, WC, FMLA, LOA, ADA, etc).

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills. The ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise and direct manner to various audiences.

  • Excellent organizational, project management, analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.

  • Ability to identify critical issues and exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and provide viable recommendations for ambiguous situations. Change management experience, including the ability to influence and lead through change.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use Workday, absence management applications, ADP, Equifax and other compliance adjacent software.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with J.D. degree or master's degree in human resources, compliance, law or related field preferred

  • Minimum of five years related work experience with at least two years of experience in HR Compliance or General Counsel's office settings.
