Job Duties

The Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission, an independent State agency, seeks a Human Resources Benefits Administrator to serve as the primary point of contact for the Commission's benefits programs. Responsibilities include administering benefits for our award-winning workplace; coordinating leave benefits for Commission employees; assisting with the planning and implementation of employee programs; and assisting with HR Records Maintenance.

Additional responsibilities include benefits training, accident investigation, and compliance. Must past criminal background check.

VWC Compensation Structure

Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission is an independent agency which allows us to have a more competitive and unique pay structure. This position is a pay grade 8 based on a 14 grade pay structure. Our positions are not classified under DHRM's pay bands.

Telework Structure

Our agency is currently using a hybrid model for teleworking. Our positions at this time are not 100% teleworking.

All candidates would be expected to report to our Headquarters/Regional Office as requested. Telework scheduling is at the discretion of the Director/Manager based on the business needs of the department. Upon hire, candidates should expect to have all training and orientation conducted at the Headquarters Office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive experience administering State employee benefits programs such as health benefits, leave programs, retirement benefits, life insurance, new employee orientation programs, VSDP, workers' compensation, and deferred compensation.

  • Working knowledge of employee recognition programs.

  • Working knowledge of the Cardinal, VRS Navigator, and E-Verify systems.

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management, including federal and state laws pertaining to human resources including ADA.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically orally and in-writing with internal and external customers at all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments with attention to detail, work independently, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and format data for reports.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook, data entry and retrieval from computer databases, and the principles of internet research.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with Library of Virginia records retention procedures preferred.

  • Experience with Cardinal and Kronos preferred.

  • PHR or CBA preferred.
