The Montana Department of Revenue administers approximately 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the State of Montana.

DUTIES

The Human Resource Assistant Payroll and Benefits provides administrative support as well as specialized services in support of HR operations and programs with the primary focus on payroll and benefits. The position reports to the Human Resources Manager and does not directly supervise other staff.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

The above competencies are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and three years of job-related work experience. Work experience must include office operations, business communications using standard and specialized software applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets as well as the ability to learn and use new applications.

Experience with SABHRS or other payroll and benefits preferred. Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis. It is important that all previous work experience is listed.

This position does not require any postsecondary education however, if you have documented graduation and a college degree please attach your transcripts.

The position performs financial accounting and analysis, grant management, cash management, journals, monthly and quarterly reporting, and researches unusual financial activities. Responsible for coordinating and administering agency payroll. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: You will be most qualified if you have the following knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of: * Understand complex grant management concepts and principles, including allowable costs, cost sharing or match requirements and stand-in costs; * Analyze financial trends and perform financial research; * Project anticipated expenditures based on historical information; * The accounting cycle and of individual grants and programs; and * Complex Excel formulas and allocation methodologies. Skills in: * Managing one's own time and meeting deadlines; * Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Ability to: * The ability to communicate information both orally and in writing so others will understand. * Communicate financial information; and * Analyze, research and adjust expenditures as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically required through a combination of directly related education and experience equivalent to five years; such equivalent combinations include a four year job-related college degree and one year of directly related work experience.
