This position is located in the Human Resources Office and provides support to the Employee Benefits Specialist at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System.

Provides administrative support for all civilian employee benefit matters.
Advises employee regarding health and life insurance option, Thrift Saving Plan (TSP), Social Security, public pension offset.
Researches, identifies and explains complicated, in-depth employee benefit-related issues, such as TSP counseling, health benefits conversion, retirement calculations, or continuing benefits administered after separation.
Counsels separating employees; explaining options regarding Federal employment benefits to include lump-sum payments for unused annual leave, conversion of health and life insurance and possibility of the option to obtain refund of retirement deductions.
Receives and reviews award nominations for policy compliance.
Sets up award files, assigns case numbers, routes for approval, prepares award certificates.
Coordinate the quarterly awards ceremonies, makes arrangements for refreshments, and develops a script for the Master of Ceremony, and creation and distribution of award programs and flyers.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
