Administer, coordinate, and help facilitate leaves of absence (including FMLA, medical, non-health, military and parental), workers compensation and disability claims. Work closely with other areas such as ADA, Benefits, Employee Relations and Academic Affairs. Capture, analyze, and report on HR trends, business processes, market data, and/or other information. Perform research and analysis.

This position is hybrid, so the incumbent will be required to work at least one day per week onsite, but will also be able to telecommute. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking, and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement

Responsibilities

1.Provides professional analytical support work.

2.Makes designation determinations based on medical documentation.

3.Consults with medical providers, employees, departments, stakeholders and vendors.

4.Updates tracking, case management and other systems.

5.Collects, studies, analyzes, and interprets various forms of HR data. Performs studies and conducts research.

6.Reviews and interprets policies, practices, and procedures and makes recommendations.

7.Ensures data quality and usefulness. Prepares and presents reports.

8.Tracks and evaluates trends and developments.

9.Ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.



  1. Facilitates meetings, group discussions, and projects.

  2. Assists in the rollout and implementation of programs.

  3. May participate on various committees.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); two years of progressively more responsible experience in HR; analyzing, presenting data, and developing customer relations.

  • Demonstrated computer (MS Office: Excel/ Word/ Outlook), human relations, and effective communication skills required.

Experience with managing leaves of absence. Strong problem solving and communication skills. Proven ability to use discretion and handle sensitive conversations professionally. Demonstrate high level of business ethics.
