The City of Reno Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department has an exciting opportunity for a temporary, non-benefited, part-time HAND - Reno Works Assistant. This is a temporary, non-benefited, part-time position up to 17.5 hours per week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday (not to exceed 233 hours per quarter and 1039 hours in the FY).  There are no benefits offered with this position.

The HAND - Reno Works Assistant will work alongside and support the HAND Team. Typical responsibilities include: case management, data tracking, knowledge of administrative duties and clerical tasks, assisting with financial duties; issuing and responding to written and oral inquiries; programmatic responsibilities; coordinate and support projects; and performing other support functions as needed.

  • Actively case manage Reno Works graduates and continually connect them to available resources; maintain data on past graduates and use data to make program recommendations and improvements.

  • Act as the "bridge person" to help individuals and graduates cross over the bridge from houseless to housed; provide resources and guidance to remain housed.

  • Work closely with a wide variety or persons, including unhoused population; communicate clearly and provide assistant where necessary.

  • Performs various routine clerical duties, utilizing standard office equipment, to include: answering phones/emails; performing data entry; typing; and word processing.

  • Responds to project requests for information from staff.

  • Issues a variety of requests to vendors for services, analyze information, make recommendations.

  • Prepares, reviews, and/or processes a variety of routine correspondence, reports, logs, information, paperwork, and/or other related information in assigned area of responsibility; keys information into applicable spreadsheets and/or databases

  • Perform other duties as assigned and as related to Reno Works.

Knowledge of:

Customer service principles.

Basic principles, practices, and operations of providing office assistance.

Work organization and office management principles and practices.

Computer applications such as spreadsheets and word processing.

Basic accounting principles and practices of budget preparation or administration.

Methods and techniques of effective technical, administrative, and financial record keeping, report preparation, and presentation.

Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and various software packages.

Methods and techniques used in communication and public relations.

English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Basic filing, and confidential recordkeeping principles.

Ability to:

Provide exceptional customer service internally and externally.

Learn to/participate in preparation of a variety of requests and reports.

Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.

Process contracts, payments, purchase orders, update or compile budget information.

Ability to work with vendors, employees and City officials, and outside agencies on a variety of projects.

Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages.

Work independently and in a team based environment to achieve common goals.

Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Work Experience:

One (1) year experience working with unhoused populations in a customer service-oriented environment.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service System.
