Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Housekeeping Supervisor I ensures all facilities are maintained at the highest level of cleanliness and neatness and that facility restrooms are always clean and stocked. This work is done while the park is open to regular visitors and supports all other special events.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing schedules and assigning duties to ensure the facilities are clean and bathrooms are stocked for our daily visitation along with special events.

  • Supplementing own efforts with development and supervision of staff to accomplish tasks.

  • Maintaining inventory of all supplies and equipment for housekeeping.

  • Setting up other facilities in the park in accordance with scheduled activities by paying close attention to any meetings, programs, school groups, or events to facilitate cleaning coverage for the facility. The position also cleans up and checks rental spaces after each function.

  • Providing maintenance with daily reports of any facilities or equipment requiring repair to include such details as light bulbs, filters, etc.

  • Completing work plans and performance reviews of staff members supervised by this position.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Division Description:

Roanoke Island Festival Park is a 27-acre site. First opening in 1983 with the "Elizabeth II", a 16th century replica sailing vessel, and a visitor's center.

In 1998, an expansion project was completed adding an 8,500 sq. ft. Adventure Museum; a 240-seat film/small performance indoor theatre; a 50-seat auditorium; Ticket Sales; a 3,000-sq. ft. meeting room; an outdoor performance pavilion with lawn seating for 3,500; a museum store; administrative offices; maintenance facilities, waterside boardwalks, and a public Kayak Launch. This position is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

  • Demonstrated housekeeping work experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using commercial cleaning products safely.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and or advising staff of specialized cleaning and maintenance techniques and processes.

  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and some nights based on events.

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in the area assigned.
