This position is responsible for cleaning projects requiring advanced training and demonstrated skill. Inspects work performed in assigned building/property(s) and submits reports to the Supervisor. Positions may be indoors to maintain the interior of the community, outdoors to maintain the exterior, or a mixture of both.


Performs a variety of cleaning/maintenance duties as assigned including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, shampooing, dusting, polishing, trash disposal, replacing light bulbs and window cleaning.

Informs Supervisor of needed supplies.

Maintains all cleaning solutions in accordance to OSHA requirements for hazardous chemicals.

Removes trash from premises and assists in emergency cleaning.

Ability to properly utilize new equipment and follow safety procedures prior to using this equipment.

Maintains friendly and professional attitude.

Responsible for maintaining the appropriate level of sanitary and cleaning supplies for assigned areas.

Inspects all assigned areas daily and reports all cleaning and maintenance discrepancies to Supervisor.

Ensures that security procedures are adhered to at all times.

Ensures all safety precautions are followed while performing work.

Maintains working relationship with building staff.

Furnishes and burnishes floors as required.

Completes daily work orders as scheduled.

Responsible for maintaining the appropriate level of sanitary and cleaning supplies for assigned areas. Maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.

As applicable, cleans restrooms: Sweeps and mops floors.

Refills all dispensers such as hand towels, toilet paper & hand soap. Cleans toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors & counters. Empties/removes trash. Reports any discrepancies or deficiencies to supervisor.

Ability to properly utilize new equipment and follow safety procedures prior to using this equipment.



High school diploma or equivalency preferred.


Previous custodial experience preferred.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills required.

Ability to lift 50 lbs following appropriate safety procedures;

Work in an upright standing position for long periods of time;

Crawl in small and tight spaces; Ability to work in different environmental working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain);

Walk and climb stairs; Handle, finger, grasp and feel objects and equipment;

Reach with hands and arms;

Ability quickly and easily navigate the property/building as required to meet the job functions;

Repeat various motions with the wrists, hands and fingers;

Complete all required forms.

Ability to respond to emergencies on a timely manner.

Climb ladders and work at heights above ground level (maximum 3 ft).

Performs complete room cleaning that includes drapes, windows, blinds, bed, and walls if needed. Handles biohazard materials appropriately, which includes taping, container inspection, and transport. Makes unoccupied bed properly. Cleans utility rooms and kitchen completely on a daily basis, which includes counters, floors, outside if refrigerator and maintaining clean / dirty space principles. Cleans housekeeping cart weekly Changes mop water in bucket every 3 rooms for routine cleaning and every room for isolation. Respects patient rights, privacy, and confidentially (knocking) when entering the room. Communicates with the patient in a polite, courteous, kind manner. Reports any sudden change in patient condition to the nurse (i.e., falls, injuries, patient complaint) Following safety rules when mopping floor by placing signs and warning staff (if needed). Reports personal accident / injuries and illness to supervisor. Cleans hall walls and common area completely, including high / low dusting, railing, walls, furniture, and pictures. Washes hands properly, which includes friction, rinsing, drying, and turning the faucet with paper towel. Will follow all safety & infection control procedures and precaution standards (including hand washing). Identifies that an isolation sign on the floor requires special precautions. Action Performs Independently Performs with Coaching Unable to Perform In isolation room: mops way out, removes gown and glove, places them in plastic bag, closes bag, cleans hands with sanitizer, and then goes to utility room to wash hands. Wears gloves when touching blood, body fluids, secretions, and excretions. Wears gown if uniform is likely to be splashed or sprayed. Applies gloves and gown correctly. Demonstrates flexibility with schedule from day shift to evening shift. Reports all hazardous conditions or equipment to Director. Ensure that all established infection control and universal standards practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures. Ensure that refuse is dispensed of daily and in accordance with our established sanitation procedures. Coordinate routine / terminal isolation procedures with nursing services. Conduct daily inspection of assigned work areas to ensure that cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained. Abides by the infection control and other guidelines as required. Follow guidelines for treating patients / residents in isolation. Utilizes hand washing techniques. Cleans equipment as needed or requested. Reports personal symptoms of suspected illness or contagious disease to employee health nurse. Provides a level of competency in the treatment of patient / resident 18 to 100 plus years and identifies their normal patterns of living and strives to attain them. Strives to obtain understanding by speaking distinctly and moving slowly, also accesses sight and hearing. Competently maintains and supports positive guest relations which reflect the values of Catholic Health Services and demonstrates respect for human rights and dignity at all times.
