Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital (MBSH) is an acute-care facility located off Highway 44 in Sullivan, Missouri, serving the residents of Crawford, Franklin and Washington counties. MBSH just recently completed an 8-year journey from a very small facility to a very, very modern facility that can treat and take care of patients with special problems. The Wound Care Center, which is the newest specialized center of its kind within a 60-mile radius, is a perfect example of that. MBSH also operates a visiting specialty clinic program in its Medical Office Building. Visiting physicians with expertise in a variety of medical specialties come to the Hospital from Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. This gives patients the opportunity to see and receive treatment from highly skilled specialists without leaving the Sullivan area. The Hospital is an integral part of the rural communities we serve-our patients are also our friends and neighbors-so we have a special sense of commitment to provide excellent care to every patient.

The Medical/Surgical Department is a 34-bed general medical, surgical and telemetry unit that provides comprehensive biopsychosocial nursing to patients requiring general medical, pre- and post-operative care, urology, cardiac and pediatric care. Department nurses provide exceptional care to infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors.

Overview

Role Purpose

The House Supervisor is delegated the authority and responsibility for administrative supervision of patient care and other hospital departments, serving as a representative of Administration in the absence of the Administrator during off shifts. Acts as a liaison with departments and/or consults with Administrator on call to handle unusual circumstances, appropriate resources, and investigate and resolve clinical problems/complaints.

Responsibilities

Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.Supervises the delivery of safe and appropriate patient care across the organization. Effectively responds to special circumstances and acts as the on site leader.Assists with patient care operations and integration of services between departments.Assists in the clinical development of nursing staff, including observing and coaching staff in performance of clinical duties and interpersonal interactions and monitoring staff and unit compliance in accordance with regulatory guidelines.Functions as a liaison between Administration and all departments and customers.Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
