The Position

This position is based at the Central Library and supports six neighborhood libraries and the Brand Library & Art Center along with the Central Library. This position is responsible for installing and maintaining public and staff technology systems to support the operations of the Glendale Library, Arts & Culture department and provide technology access to Glendale residents. It is a unique opportunity to experience and manage a wide variety of technical systems and engage with the community through technology and electronic resources.

Individuals occupying this entry-level classification in the Hourly City Worker- Library IT Services Series perform basic technical support of library computers, printers and other related equipment and software applications.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

Ensures standard workstation specifications are followed.

Assists, coordinates, controls and/or maintains computer systems to ensure compatibility and integration with other equipment.

Provides technical support to users, with varying computer skills, of the City's personal computers and peripheral equipment. Provides information and answers questions regarding software programs and systems.

Installs hardware, software, and peripheral equipment.

Troubleshoots hardware and software problems and performs corrective action. Images computers as needed.

Maintain inventory of computers, spare parts, and assemblies. Performs follow-up maintenance support of existing equipment. Moves and removes equipment.

Arranges for equipment service and maintenance and orders parts and repairs equipment.

Reviews and enters work orders/tickets into the Help Desk system.

Performs installations and troubleshooting on the latest version of Windows, macOS, MS Outlook Web Access, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and a variety of applications including public-facing systems supporting pay-to-print and PC reservation.

Instruct and assist library users and staff on system software, configuration issues and basic computer operations as required. Assist in computer related training and programs for the library.

Assists in database maintenance.

Enters work orders into the Help Desk system.

Notifies system managers and customers regarding operating problems.

Follows City policy and procedures when conducting daily tasks.

Communicates to senior technicians and supervisor for guidance when anomalies appear.

May participate in Wi-Fi network support.

May participate in network planning, implementation, and special projects.

May drive on City business as necessary.

Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

Minimum Requirements

Experience.

Six months of entry level IT or help desk experience.

Education/Training

Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.

License(s)/Certification(s)

A valid California Class C driver's license may be required depending upon the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of:

Computer systems and programming.

Latest version of MS Windows Operating System and the MS Office suite.

PC networking and infrastructure fundamentals.

Exceptional customer service practices.

Technical training concepts.

Skill in:

Effective oral and written communications, both on a one-on-one and a group basis. Exceptional customer service practices.

Making independent judgments and decisions based on standard policy or procedure.

Imaging in the latest version of Windows.

Installing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software.

Network standards and administration.

Ability to:

Provide exceptional customer service to those utilizing the services of the Library, Arts & Culture Department.

Adapt to new technology within a library environment. Advise staff regarding appropriate policies and procedures. Communicate effectively in English.

Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and staff.

Develop the necessary skills from on-the-job training to meet the standards of performance for the classification.

Establish and maintain smooth and effective working relationships. Foster a teamwork environment.

Install, configure, and upgrade computer operating systems. Lift and carry 50 pounds.

Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Provide informal one-on-one instruction and assistance in various PC & Mac applications.

Read and understand technical computer related training and reference materials.

Read, write, and comprehend directions in English. Troubleshoot and repair computers and printers. Use computer equipment.

Special Conditions:

Work may be required on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work is regularly performed indoors in an office environment and public library setting.

Physical demands include exerting moderate physical effort including climbing, bending, and stooping and movement of objects requiring motions such as lifting and carrying.

The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights.
