A Host/Hostess at Denny's plays a special role for our guests. You are often their first impression and last impression, and we count on you to sincerely make them feel at home every time!

The Host or Hostess greets guests in a warm, friendly, smiling manner that welcomes them into our restaurant and sets the stage for a positive dining experience. A Denny's Host or Hostess has a "Guests First" attitude, engaging in friendly conversation with guests as you perform duties such as:

  • Suggesting new menu items from our limited time offerings.

  • Receiving payment and making correct change.

  • Assisting with beverages like bold, signature or flavored coffees.

  • Cleaning, completing side work, and organizing supplies as needed.

  • Willingly assisting other team members without being asked.

  • Providing total guest satisfaction.

  • Greets and welcomes all customers immediately upon arrival and verifies number in their party. Determines special needs, e.g., high chairs, special menus.

  • Collects payment from customers immediately, in accordance with established cash handling procedures, inquires about food/service satisfaction and handles customer complaints/suggestions appropriately.

  • Seats customers at tables/booths appropriate for their needs and those of the restaurant, and introduces feature of the day.

  • Keeps hostess area stocked and clean, e.g., to-go items and bakery products.

  • Handles incoming telephone calls immediately, and takes to go orders as appropriate.

  • Maintains proper supply of clean menus.

  • Periodically supplies customers with initial beverage suggestions and provides beverage order and refills.

  • Assists service personnel in clearing and setting tables.

  • Resolves complaints as he/she becomes aware of them, notifying the manager of any complaints received.

  • Assists other service personnel as needed.

This individual supports students from a developmental advising approach, educates students in a flexible and creative learning environment, and is an active participant in collaborating with students, faculty and staff to promote academic success. In addition, the individual also oversees the Academic Resources Center (ARC), WPI's centralized tutoring center for first and second year STEM courses. The academic advising office reinforces the goals of WPI, in providing an "education (that) encompasses continuous striving for excellence coupled with an examination of the contexts of learning so that knowledge is won not only for its own sake but also for the sake of the human community of which the people of WPI are part". JOB DESCRIPTION * In support of WPI's faculty advising model, provides academic advising guidance to a caseload of first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior students. * Supports academically at-risk students, including students who are not making satisfactory academic progress. Provides individual coaching sessions for students based on an evaluation of their academic and personal background. * Assesses student's stage of development (academic, career, and personal) and promotes student growth by determining suitable developmental goals and tasks. * Assists students in developing decision making skills relevant to educational options and possible outcomes. Provides individual counseling in establishing effective learning strategies. * Recruits, trains and supervises peer tutors and M*A*S*H leaders. Meets regularly with student staff to provide session feedback, discuss professional goals, and enhance leadership skills. Develops and facilitates student staff retreats. * Creates and facilitates training modules for beginning, advanced, and master level tutor and mentor certification. Maintains documentation of training hours, tutoring hours, mentoring hours, and academic criteria necessary for certification. * Collaborates with on-campus resources to gather materials necessary for certification. * Coordinates campus wide programming related to Academic Resources Center, including workshops, events, and collaboration with offices and services on campus. * Engages faculty in the support and delivery of tutoring programs. * Maintains memberships in appropriate professional organizations such as College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA), New England Peer Tutor Association (NEPTA), and National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). * Actively engages in professional development organizations including: serving on committees, hosting conferences, presenting at regional and national conferences, and publishing in relevant professional documents. * Maintains the day-to-day function of tutoring appointment software, including inputting of schedules, course roll-overs, center availability, and various reporting functions. * Develops and maintains Academic Resources Center budget. Position Requirements * A Master's degree preferred. Over three years experience required in academic advising, learning center management, or other higher educational role. * Proven ability to coordinate and prioritize details for multiple programs and to develop academic skills with individual college students. * Demonstrates strong communication skills. Experience in effectively working with diverse populations. * Knowledge of student information systems (such as Banner) and FERPA Regulations for handling student records. * Demonstrated experience in the development, presentation and evaluation of a full range of academic support services for students. * Knowledge of research and theoretical perspectives of factors affecting student learning, achievement and retention. * Knowledge of various learning styles and related teaching approaches. * A proven ability to direct training activities and conduct counseling sessions.
