Report to: Volunteer & Academic Program Director & Hospitality Manager

Location: Onsite

Hours: 16 hours per week, from July 15 - September 20, 2024

Schedule: Interns may choose 4 of the following shifts:

Mondays: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Tuesdays: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 12:30 - 4:30 PM

Wednesdays: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 12:30 - 4:30 PM

Thursdays: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 12:30 - 4:30 PM

Fridays: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Join a small and social justice-oriented team environment! Rose Haven has provided over 25 years of compassionate service as the only day shelter for women, children and gender expansive people. We are a femme-centered, gender-specific community that serves those most impacted by gender oppression. Our holistic approach includes meeting essential needs such as food, clothing, showers, laundry, and safety while bolstering long term empowerment through emotional support, wellness activities, and connection to resources and community. We offer low-barrier services in a trauma-informed space to guests who trust us as we value their relationships with our community of staff, interns and volunteers.

The Hospitality Program Internship learning opportunities are primarily focused on working directly with guests in our various program areas, including Wellness (showers and activities), Hospitality (clothing, laundry, supplies), and Guest Services (guest check-in, intakes, mail services), providing vital support as needed.

The Progression of the Internship Learning Plan would entail:

  • Direct Service: Interns work directly with with guests in a low barrier day shelter setting

  • Program Support: Interns spend time in the various program areas in order to build understanding of the agency and build rapport with community members. This can include shifts at Guests Services (guest check-in and phone support), Hospitality (supply distribution), Wellness (showers), and the Shop (clothing distribution).

  • Shadowing: Interns support staff at hospitality and wellness desks, supporting staff in providing access to services and supplies and maintaining boundaries as needed.

  • Record Keeping: Interns support data entry of services and supplies received.

  • Promote the principles of trauma informed care, conflict management, person-centered approach and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.

Expectations:

  • At least 2 years completed of undergraduate education in a Behavioral Sciences program (Social Work, Child & Family Studies, Psychology, etc.)

  • Support of the mission, values, principles and community agreements of Rose Haven.

  • Demonstration of cultural humility toward diversity of human experience including race, religion, ethnicity, mental and physical abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, education and cultural heritage.

  • Uphold a creative, team-centric and cooperative approach to guest services and job performance, and aim to contribute a constructive, problem-solving orientation to all tasks.

  • Maintain a professional level of performance, demeanor and appearance at all times ? Model positive behavior, lead by example, and remain calm when responding to guests in crisis

Qualifications (preferred):

  • You're best suited to be in this role if your identities and/or lived experience reflects the diversity of the people we serve. Candidates with lived experience related to being a person of color, LGBTQ2IA+, having a disability, experiencing housing insecurity, or being part of a marginalized community are encouraged to apply.

  • Bilingual (American Sign Language, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese language skills are particularly valued).

  • Non-violent crisis intervention or de-escalation skills/experience

Compensation and Benefits:

$2560 living stipend for a 10 week internship

Work Space Accessibility:

Rose Haven operates services on the main floor. Entrances vary from 0-3 stairs, with one staircase between the main floor and basement (where guest supplies are stored). Noise level in the building often fluctuates with direct service delivery. Lifting of 0-50 pounds and moving supplies or furniture may occasionally be requested. Parking pass provided.
