This position provides oversight for the operations of the College's Laker Cafe, including cash register operation, cash drawer maintenance, daily deposit preparation, ordering inventory and supplies, and food preparation. Utilizes appropriate software to update pricing and track inventory.

Responsibilities

Oversees College Laker Café operations. Manages cleaning protocols and monitors/reports on appropriate maintenance of appliances. Operates cash register, keeps cash drawer supplied with appropriate amount of change, posts credit card sales, prepares and forwards daily cash deposits to the College Accounting Department. Prepares daily food menu such as sandwiches, salads, soups, pizza, and specials, when appropriate. Places all food orders and/or shops locally for food items necessary for operations. Maintains all menus for the College's Laker café. Creates and maintains cost-effective pricing for all beverage and food items. Performs annual inventory for the College Laker Cafe. Trains, schedules, and supervises student workers as needed. Maintains catering menu for limited in-house catering and accommodates catering requests to the extent possible with existing staffing. Provides attentive and friendly customer service to various constituents. Addresses and resolves customer service issues in a timely and effective manner. To improve the efficiency of the Laker Café, assists in the development and implementation of departmental objectives, policies, procedures, and standards; recommends changes to departmental procedures, as appropriate. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College's Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, decision making, and time management skills,.

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work both as a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to hire, train, plan and schedule, assign tasks, and supervise student workers.

  • Strong customer service skills; ability to resolve customer complaints in a timely and effective manner.

  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively. Strong mathematical and computer skills.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • ServSafe certification with the State of Michigan must be obtained.

  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License.

Experience:

  • Six months to one year of experience in a Hospitality related field preferred.

Working Environment:

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an educational environment which requires a professional image and demeanor; prompt and reliable attendance. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is occasional moderate noise level within the environment.

  • Travel to other campus locations may be required.

  • Travel for conferences/training/workshops may be required.

  • Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.

  • The job has intermittent periods during which frequent physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).

  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines and quotas; may occasionally be involved in sensitive conversations with students or staff members.

  • Typical work schedule is within the College's 8:00am - 4:30pm hours of operation with flexible or extended hours if needed by departmental demands.
