Hospitalist / Clinical Assistant Professor (Hs)

The Department of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Hospitalist / Clinical Assistant Professor (HS). The successful candidate will:

• Admit adult unassigned patients without a private attending in University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB) from the Emergency Department, MICU and CCU according to the hospitalist service schedules.

• Diagnose and treat different medical conditions in the adult hospitalized patients on their service. Work as a team with the nursing staff and social worker to make appropriate discharge arrangements for the patients admitted to their service. Provides consultations for preoperative patients.

• Function as the Teaching Attending for the medical resident/student teams for approximately 8-months a year. Set and communicates to the team, expected performance standards. Evaluate and individually discuss the resident and student mid-month and end-of-month performance. Mentor second-year students in the history-taking and physical exam. Formally evaluate third-year medical students' bedside performance. Teach courses to the medical resident/student teams.

• Participate in the hospitalist service meetings as scheduled by the director. Participate in different administrative tasks, to include performance improvement, health information management, medicine department operations, HIV committee, palliative care working group, etc., distributed by the director.

Required Qualifications:

• Medical Doctor Degree or equivalent.

• Full training in Internal Medicine.

• Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

• 1-year of residency teaching in an academic setting.

• New York State Medical Doctor Licensure.
