Job Description:

The Lahey Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice (AP) Fellowship is an intensive 12-month postgraduate fellowship program dedicated to enhancing the development of early-career advanced practice providers (APPs), both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, or for those who are new to hospital-based medicine. The fellowship mission is to provide a solid foundation in hospital-based medicine that will help the APP develop the clinical decision making skills required to care for our diverse and increasingly complex patients. The program is intended to help novice or new to hospital-based medicine APPs develop a wide range of knowledge and skills that will help them grow into competent and well-rounded hospital medicine providers.

Under the direction of their preceptor initially, hospital medicine fellows will gain the knowledge, skills and abilities to assess acute and chronic patient illnesses; obtain complete medical histories and perform physical examinations; order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulate and implement a diagnosis and treatment plan; seek consultation or referral as necessary; accurately prescribe and/or dispense medication and counsel patients and their families/caregivers. Throughout the program, hospital medicine APP fellows will be exposed to diverse patient populations, including those patients being cared for under specialty services as well as pulmonary critical care.

Fellows will rotate through our main campus in Burlington and satellite facility in Peabody, as well as our partner hospital in Beverly. Fellows will also be expected to rotate through day, swing and overnight rotations within the 12- month program.

Detailed Objectives By the end of the 12-month program, fellows should be able to:
