Summary

The Clinical Leader is responsible for the day to day oversight of clinical operations and clinical workflow in the wound/ostomy program, ensuring quality patient care, access and program goals are met and sustained. The clinical leader is responsible for ensuring education/training and development plans for staff to optimize clinical outcomes and engagement. This position supervises an average of 5 staff members.

Reporting to the Director for Orthopaedic/Surgical specialties/trauma, and in collaboration with the Administrative Director and Medical leadership, the Clinical Leader is responsible for operational productivity, fiscal and human resource management and development and engagement of workforce.

Specifically, the Clinical Leader will effectively supervise staffs; elevate issues to the Director to ensure resolution; facilitate high levels of patient and employee engagement to improve the overall patient experience; ensure policies and protocols are followed; assist with budget and payroll; maintain clinical competency with direct patient care worked/productive time to support clinical services. This individual will coordinate and supervise the overall function of the Wound/Ostomy Program across the Concord Hospital Health System. This will require working collaboratively with administration, physicians, advanced providers, nurses and ancillary personnel in various departments. This includes all patient care units, including the emergency department, operating room, ICU, CHMG practices and all clinical support departments. This position requires travel to all 3 hospitals within the system.

Education

BSN required; Masters preferred

Certification, Registration & Licensure

Licensure: Active Registered Nurse through the New Hampshire Board of Nursing

Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and WOCN certifications required

Experience

Minimum of 5 years Registered Nurse experience in an inpatient, acute care setting, with training and experience caring for complex wound and ostomy needs. Experience supervising and education others in wound/ostomy care.

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Provide expert wound/ostomy assessment, consultation, care planning and orders, in collaboration with providers and nursing.

  • Create evidence-based education materials for patient teaching.

  • Partner with Quality to collect and analyze data specific to the wound/ostomy program.

  • Ability to supervise clinical staff to attain program objectives.

  • Utilize nursing process and critical thinking in their clinical/management role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the daily activities of the wound/ostomy program and provides on-site leadership. Ensures proper scheduling and coverage.

  • Functions as the expert clinical resource for wound/ostomy care for staff and providers.

  • Develops and updates guidelines for Wound/Ostomy consult process and ensures clinical criteria for consult is met.

  • Partner with Quality and others to improve metrics for pressure injury prevention across the system.

  • Partner with Supply Chain for review of current and new products and opportunities for standardization.

  • Partner with IT to analyze and track data related to consult volume, pressure injuries, etc.

  • Create and lead the Wound Champion Program across the system to achieve measurable objectives.

  • Educate at staff meetings, Nurse Residency Program and on new equipment and initiatives across the system.

  • Ensures correct documentation of wound/ostomy care and discharge instructions by program staff.

  • Develops and implements clinical protocols and work flows and monitors compliance with regulations required by DNV, OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory bodies.

  • Responsible for ensuring competency, educational/training, growth and development of wound/ostomy staff across the system.

  • Manages general onboarding and orientation activities and ensures communications and progress of new staff are documented.

  • Contributes to annual performance evaluation of staff in collaboration with Manager/Director.

  • Maintains an account of staff attendance and reliability. Processes payroll in accordance with best practices.

  • Establishes positive working relationships with providers and other leadership teams. Demonstrates a high level of professionalism toward patients, providers, staff, peers and administrators reflective of Concord Hospital Service Behaviors. Accountable for effective and timely communication.

  • Takes responsibility for individual performance goals.

  • Other clinical and managerial duties as defined in collaboration with manager and director.

The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne contaminants, bloodborne pathogens, chemotherapeutic agents, radiation, and slippery surfaces.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
