VCA Veterinary Specialists of Northern Coloradolocated on the outskirts of Loveland, Coloradois seeking a highly experienced Veterinary professional to join the leadership team at our AAHA-accredited, 24-hour emergency/specialty referral practice as Hospital Administrator.

The role demands a leader with the interpersonal and organizational skills to continue achieving our goals of delivering excellent patient care and customer service to both our clients and referring veterinarians.

The successful candidate will have experience in Human Resource and Personnel Management, Marketing, and Business Development. Your strategic vision and operational acumen will be put to good use!

The Hospital Administratorunder the guidance of the Regional Operations Directorperforms a wide range of administrative activities related to the practice. This includes: mentoring the staff and overseeing the business operations and maintenance of the facility; ensuring the business growth and profitability of the practice; and supporting the hospital's mission of delivering high quality patient care and exceptional client service.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2 to 3 years of customer service and financial budget management experience.

  • 4-year college degree; MBA or CVPM preferred.

  • 2+ years managing a specialty hospital unit.

  • Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings.

  • The ability to make decisions, delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members.

  • Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, positive attitude.

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deal with an environment of changing priorities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct and develop the veterinary, technical and administrative staff towards the goal of quality patient care and excellent client service; assist in the formulation of objectives and policies to ensure efficient and profitable hospital operations.

  • Build and maintain relationships with referral hospitals and community partners.

  • Develop, execute and oversee an annual marketing plan for the hospital.

  • Oversee the hiring, reviewing, disciplining and terminating of professional staff, in accordance with and with the approval of the Regional Management team.

  • Review the P&L Report monthly and partner with the Hospital Manager and Medical Director to increase revenue and limit expenses; work with home office to prepare and submit the yearly budget (budget forecast, operating plan, cap-ex expenditures) and participate in the evaluation process with Regional Management team.

  • Model an "owner" mentality in hospital by demonstrating a willingness to assist all employees in making the practice a success; invest the necessary amount of time to accomplish the required responsibilities and ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.

  • Minimizing patient stress and discomfort; recommend referral to another VCA doctor or specialist when this is likely to significantly improve the prognosis.

  • Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient.

  • Supervise the administration and case review of client medical complaints.

  • Positively represent the hospital and VCA in the professional community and to the general public.

The Hospital Account Manager works closely with branch staff and the Customer Care Center to focus efforts on increasing sales. This position collects documents required for billing based on Apria policy, coordinates patient orders and set-ups with the branch and troubleshoots and resolves issues in order to ensure a positive customer service experience for their assigned accounts. The Hospital Account Manager is also responsible for meeting revenue and profitability goals for their assigned territory. This position will work with the Branch Manager and Market Leader to develop and execute specific strategies to achieve these sales, customer satisfaction and profitability goals. * Conducts daily sales calls to high potential case managers, doctors and other sales targets in assigned accounts as determined by Branch Manager and/or Market Leader. * Creates and maintains call plans to qualify new and maintain existing referrals to grow the business. * Enters call plan and outcomes into the "Sales Management System" (SMS). * Partners with the Branch Manager and/or Market Leader to review call plan to achieve strategic goals. * Takes and processes patient orders, collecting all documents required for billing based on company policy and forwarding orders to appropriate branch for delivery from on-site account facility. * Sets-up and delivers hospital in-services on products and services. * Effectively works and coordinates timely discharges with Customer Care Center and/or Branch Customer Service Team. * Instructs patients on equipment use before hospital discharge. * Maintains the highest level of customer satisfaction by resolving and following up on customer concerns. * Partners with branch management and staff as well as other functional areas within the company to drive sales growth. * Communicates and explains Medicare guidelines around private insurance procedures, pricing information, and product information to referral sources. * Maintains accurate records on prospective and active accounts ensuring information is sent to suspended billing. * Responsible for ensuring billing documentation is complete and accurate. * Assigned to multiple locations and travels from location to location. * Does not have a desk at any hospital. * Must spend at least 80% of time in selling activities and/or incidental patient set-ups. (CA employees only: must spend at least 50% in selling activities, excluding patient set-ups). * Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor. Minimum Required Qualifications * A four year college degree is required. * Must have experience in one of the following: military service, prior leadership in athletic, academic or voluntary service activities. * Must be highly motivated, flexible, and service-oriented. * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain solid working relationships with internal and external customers. * Learn and comply with all Department of Transportation requirements determined for use of Apria vehicles. * Must possess a valid driver's license. * Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development. * Geographically located within the assigned territory.
