Horticulture Tech Greenhouse Operation Adjunct Instructor

The Purpose

Sustain high quality teaching performance in Horticulture Technology including appropriate course loads. This load may include seated, hybrid, and online classes with day and evening courses.

What You'll be Doing

• Maintain mastery and currency in the credentialed field.

• Classes and Labs will operate according to all OSHA and EPA regulations.

• The instructor will establish and follow all course syllabus guidelines for the curriculum which includes grading process, class content, on-line class instruction, class hours, attendance and tasks taught.

• Perform record keeping function in the areas of course syllabi, attendance and student performance in an accurate and timely manner.

• Ensure that no live work is accepted from the public.  All work performed by students, other than labs; must have prior approval from the Dean for Applied Technology

• The instructor will be responsible for lab cleanliness during and after session.  All demonstrations must be in working order after each lab session.

• Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additionally:

• Assist lead instructor in Program planning and support of Institutional Effectiveness plan.

• Measure student learning outcomes as outlined by the lead instructor.

• Maintain working relationships with all college employees while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.

• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Education: Required:  Associate degree in Horticultural Technology, or a closely related field; Bachelor's degree or greater preferred.

Experience:  Industry experience in specified area of horticultural technology, or closely related areas.  Previous college teaching experience preferred.

Skills and the Know-How

The faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands:

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
