Lamar Community College has an exciting opportunity for you to be our next Horse Training Management Faculty Instructor. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, dedicated individual who will lead and implement LCC's strategic plan.

POSITION SUMMARY:    We are seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our team. Our institution provides the highest quality education and service excellence in an environment of care, support, mutual respect, and integrity.  Lamar Community College is home of a premier Horse Training and Management program. We are seeking an energetic and professional faculty member to join our team. This position will be that of a contracted full time faculty member contingent upon program enrollment and budget. Otherwise, individual instructing opportunities will be available.  The HTM faculty teaches students to train horses and demonstrate horsemanship in hands-on laboratories designed to provide applied, active learning experiences.   HTM faculty must serve as a role-model for students in the program by demonstrating appropriate business practices in addition to horsemanship. As a full-time faculty member the individual will also be responsible for participating in college and system wide activities including, for example, strategic planning, LCC Faculty Senate, HTM Advisory Committee, the LCC Equine Club, Career Fair, and LCC Open Houses. This position will provide opportunities to create and expand LCC's Equine Program, including the possible creation of a Horse Judging team.  This is an ideal position for someone creative and ambitious who enjoys both challenge and teaching others. 

As an employee of, and the Colorado Community College System, this position is required to uphold and enforce the policies of LCC and CCCS, and all local, state and federal laws. This position will comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA); and is a mandatory reporter of any suspected illegal activity.

  • Instructing Basic Care & Training, Advanced Training, Specialized Training, and Introduction to Internship Demonstrating to students the safest and most effective methods for colt starting and advanced horse training

  • Overseeing students in stall management, stall care, and chores Assist in maintaining facilities Scheduling instruction for classroom and laboratory environments

  • Assessing prospective students in riding interviews and determining what program they are prepared for

  • Determining potential areas of growth for the programs and the needed steps

  • Recruiting and retaining students for HTM program by attending recruiting events, assisting in developing marketing plans and ensuring high quality student experiences at LCC

  • Potential for assisting with the Ranch Horse Team

  • Scheduling instruction for classroom and laboratory environments

  • Placing students

  • Panning and assessing program instruction

  • Recruit and retain students for HTM program

  • Complete tasks required for accreditation

  • Participate in college and system activities assigned by supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience or Bachelor Degree in Equine Science, Animal Science or related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience or at least 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Career Technical Education Credential through the Colorado Community College System

  • Extensive demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in colt starting, performance horse finishing, riding instruction and horse management

  • Ability to establish a student-instructor relationship conducive to learning, promote active involvement of students in learning activities and promote student retention

  • Knowledge and capability to work with diversity and equity in the learning environment within the program and on campus is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience or experience as a clinician Performance horse showing experience

  • Background in related equine areas such as evaluation, riding, and show experience

Salary Range:   $40,000.00 to $42,000.00. The specific salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
