Under general supervision, provides a variety of homemaker, personal care, and basic health screening services for homebound senior citizens; and performs related work as required.

The Washoe County Human Services Agency is currently accepting applications for two Intermittent hourly Homemaker Services Aide positions. The intermittent hourly Homemaker Services Aide positions will work on an as needed basis with no guarantee of hours per week/month.

Current vacancies are located in Gerlach, Incline, Wadsworth and Washoe Valley.

Intermittent Hourly positions are not Benefited positions.

Certificate AND one year of experience providing basic care of the elderly, disabled, or infirm, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

License or Certificates

  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

  • Must have Healthcare CPR certification within three months of appointment.

  • Must have Basic First Aid certification within three months of appointment.

Additional Requirements

  • Bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting (this may include personal care)

  • Ability to be in homes with animals for a length of time (1-3 hours and may be multiple homes in a day)

  • Adaptable to varying temperatures inside homes

  • Ability to identify when additional supports are needed to maintain the client in their home and report to the caseworker

  • Understanding schedules are set for them and lunch hours may vary depending on day to day schedules

Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation. Effective July 1, 2019, the $40.25 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.

Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.  Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.

Human Services Agency applicant(s) will be required to have a tuberculosis test.  The cost of the test will be borne by the selected applicant(s).

This is not a classified position and is not covered by a collective bargaining unit.

Intermittent hourly employees are exempt employees. "Intermittent hourly employee" means a person who is not employed on a fixed schedule and works on an "on-call" basis. Please be advised that upon appointment an Intermittent Hourly employee cannot work a regularly scheduled work schedule and must work less than 1040 hours in any fiscal year. Intermittent Hourly employees are "at will" employees and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Retired PERS (Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada) employees are responsible for contacting PERS to make sure that they do not go over the assigned PERS earnings limit for a fiscal year in order to retain retirement benefits.
