Job Title: Home Study Specialist (Per Fee Basis)

Lutheran Family & Children's Services of Missouri is seeking compassionate, professional Home Study Specialists for the Columbia Office. They will conduct home studies for prospective foster and adoptive applicants in Randolph and Boone counties. They will also provide post placement supervision for adoptive families.


Provide quality direct services to clients. Including education, evaluation and writing the home study in a timely manner.

  • Remain up-to date of all associated policies and guidelines of the agency.

  • Remain up-to-date of all associated State of Missouri licensing guidelines, policies, and practices for applicants wishing to adopt/foster through the State of Missouri.

  • Remain up-to-date on all associated intercounty/Hague guidelines, processes and policies of applicants wishing to adopt internationally.

  • Seek supervision as needed throughout the home study process

  • Provide resources and referrals to home study applicants as needed.

  • Attend training and meetings at the direction of the supervisor.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, and Sociology, Human Services or other related field.

  • Two years of experience in child welfare and adoption fields.

  • Must be trained in STARS Train the Trainer or willing to complete STARS Training on own accord.

  • Spaulding Training preferred.

  • Compliance with the Hague treaty factors when working on intercountry adoptions.

  • Must be a licensed driver with access to a reliable automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have extensive experience and current working knowledge of the state licensing process for foster and adoptive parents, and adoption. Accomplished social work practices, child welfare and parenting skills related to fostering and adopting. Knowledge of therapeutic foster parenting. Knowledge of Children's Division policies. Knowledge of grief, loss issues, trauma and child development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; climb up to 5 feet; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift up to 24 pounds and carry up to 24 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to access, enter, modify, and retrieve data on a personal computer. The employee is also required to read, write, and speak the English language. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job specifics include playing all commercials as scheduled, and maintaining a commercial log. Also must have audio production skills to help with preparation of the shows and perform other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or Program Director. JOB SUMMARY: Candidate must be familiar with FCC rules and regulations and EAS guidelines, as well as be proficient using computer systems such as OpX, or AudioVault. Being adept using Adobe Audition and other audio editing and automation programs is a plus. As a board operator, the majority of hours will come from evenings and weekends.
