The Akron Board of Education announces a possible opening for a Home Instructor, Job Code 038, TS 380 (190 Days). Starting Rate TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

Qualifications:

Required:

Valid teaching certification/licensure in the State of Ohio.

Desired:

Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies;

Experience in planning, developing and conducting instruction in a one-one setting;

Commitment to work with scientifically-based research instructional practices;

Experience working collaboratively with families, teachers and building staff.

Position Description:

  • Administers, scores and records the standardized pre and post-test of target pupils;

  • Communicates frequently with the regular classroom teacher to identify pupil needs;

  • Reports pupil progress to classroom teacher, program personnel and/or parents;

  • Coordinates the supplementary program instruction with that of the regular instructional program;

  • Keeps up-to-date records of each pupil's progress; and

  • Performs all other duties as directed by the Director of Special Education or his designee.

Summer Youth Instructor is responsible for supporting participants to become confident not only in a professional setting, but to empower themselves in their personal lives. This includes developing and implementing job readiness and leadership curriculum for 14-17 year old youth that is aligned with soft and life skill development. Essential Functions: * Maintain effective linkages with internal and external department staff, outside agency professionals and other community organizations including program funder. * Ensure quality and integration of program components including instruction of job readiness; leadership development; financial literacy; academic curriculums; soft skill development; and community service learning projects. * Supporting the site supervisors with employer relations and third party payroll concerns. * Assist program staff in conducting pre-enrollment activities. * Responsible for assessing needs and supporting the re-engagement of participants. * Organize and maintain written documentation for program participants including case notes, weekly timesheets, participant attendance, and evaluative data. * Assist Program Manager in data tracking, program reports, progress with program outcomes, participation in team meetings, and development of program partners. * Must meet the minimum outcomes per contract requirement. This will be reviewed in supervision. * Participate in staff training, supervisory, and staff meetings. * May be involved in the planning, organization, and implementation of special events or department specific projects or seasonal program changes. * In times of need, employee may be asked to complete related duties other than those indicated above as assigned by their supervisor Performance Requirements: * Requires typing and computer literacy, including Window applications and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. E-mail and basic database usage required. * Work is performed at the workplace or in the community. Interacts verbally with coworkers, community partners, representatives from outside agencies, families, and potential participants. * English reading and writing skills required. * Exceptional phone presence necessary and attention to detail and confidentiality required. * Will be driving in the community. * Works flexible hours, some evenings and weekends. * Public speaking and training skills required. Physical Requirements: * Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time * Must be able to access homes of participants in various conditions which may including ascending/descending stairs * Constantly positions self to an equal level in order to work with children of all ages * Must be able to drive frequently due to work varying work environments including agency office, school based, community based including participant homes in various communities Qualifications: * Must be 18 years of age with a minimum of a High School Diploma/High School Equivalency. * Experience with low income participants, and experience working with young adults. * Strong commitment to leadership, empowerment, and skill building * Must have a valid Ohio driver's license, safe driving record and proof of insurance required. * Ability to take and pass a physical exam, tuberculosis test, and drug screening.
