Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as an Ambulatory Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN ) within our Home Health Department and help with our commitment to deliver compassionate care and all-around excellence. As an LVN, you will support the Home Health Department by providing excellent patient education for the patient and their families and discharge of the clinical visits as well as making sure medical history is obtained from patients securely.

Experience and Education

Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program from approved school of nursing, licensure as LVN by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas required. One (1) - Two (2) years of post-high school education.

Two (2) - Three (3) years' experience in High Tech and Home care preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through a course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required. A Valid Texas Driver's License and proof of Automobile insurance is required.

Job Duties

Provides direct nursing care, including patient observation and delivery of prescribed treatments.
Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of treatment.
Provides instructions to patients/families for use of products and services utilizing nursing process to address learning needs.
Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues IV fluids. Accesses IV delivery system, i.e., peripheral IV start, implant Cath, vascular access devices, etc.
Responsible for overall delivery of quality patient care that meets or exceeds established standards and provides assistance in activities to meet state and/or federal regulatory guidelines.
Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established standards.
Participates in Organizational Quality Improvement Program (QAPI).
Participates in services and staff meetings.
Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.

Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Work requires the ability to care for and treat patients in accordance with established protocols, accepted nursing standards, and instructions from physicians and/or nurses.
Work requires verbal and written communication skills.
Work requires interpersonal skills.
Work requires contact with physicians, residents, fellows, secretaries, and allied health personnel to coordinate information necessary to provide optimal level of patient care.
Work requires the ability to stand for long periods of time.
Work requires the ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.
Work requires the ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
Work requires ability to perform under general supervision.
Work requires that the incumbent complete most assignments with substantial independence.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dust/dirt/fumes, exposure to disease, move and position patients, bending or reaching, driving a vehicle, more than average exposure to variable weather and road conditions, walking, annual physical examination, lifting over 50 pounds, available to work all shifts.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
