Job Overview

Covance is always looking to hire Histotechs to join our global team in Indianapolis, IN!

If you have one year plus of histotech experience under the supervision of a pathologist and demonstrated leadership ability, grow your career and work with the top talent in your field for an industry leader.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accessioning of blocks, slides and small wet tissue biopsies into database.

  • Routine microtomy, cryotomy.

  • Small biopsy grossing, tissue processing and embedding.

  • Special staining (manual and automated).

  • Digital imaging of stained slides.

  • Research/troubleshoot samples and responding to emails regarding sample status and queries

  • Be highly organize and able complete multiple tasks and process high volume of samples with accuracy and skill

  • Calibrate and perform equipment maintenance, verification of temperature, logging of data as required

  • Perform basic instrument and/or equipment troubleshooting

  • Ensure sample processing is performed and documented according to Standard Operating Procedures

  • Enter patient data into database with speed and accuracy.

  • Label and perform services for samples with accuracy and speed

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years

OR

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours(45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND one year full time acceptable experience in histopathology laboratory within the last ten years, under the supervision of a pathologist or an appropriately board certified medical scientist.

ASCP HT certification prefered

Experience

  • At least 1 full year of histotech experience under the supervision of a pathologist.

  • Strong microtomy skills

  • Strong embedding skills

  • Strong special staining skills

  • Some tissue grossing a plus
