Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire a History Programming Assistant to assist with cultural history educational programming. This position has variety in duties and requires flexibility and problem solving. The position is housed at the Nederland Mining Museum.

This is a seasonal, hourly, non-benefitedposition.This position will work 40 hours a week between Wednesday- Sunday 9:00am - 6:00pm. The work timeframe can be flexible based on preference when the museum is open for the season, June-October, Fridays-Sundays 11am-5pm. This position will work out of 200 N. Bridge St, Nederland Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt(eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hourly Rate: $23.23 per Hour

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • First Round Interviews: April 10th

Examples of Duties

  • Lead and assist with educational programs such as tours, special events, and general visitor services at the Nederland Mining Museum, Assay Office Museum, Cardinal Mill, Altona School, and Walker Ranch Homestead

  • Act as the first point of contact for visitors and volunteers from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds

  • Conduct or assist with van tours (12 passenger van driver training provided and required) of county-owned historic mining sites

  • Assist with and coordinate volunteer trainings, recruitment, and volunteer activities

  • Maintain program supplies and storage areas

  • Research and perform living history demonstrations

  • Research and catalog artifacts

  • Clean and maintain exhibit and museum areas

  • Perform related work, as required

  • May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of post high school course work in History, Interpretation, Museum Studies, Geology, Earth Science, or related field and a minimum of one season of experience directly related to education, history education or environmental education.Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Duties require driving to and from perhaps multiple mountain and plains sites per week or per day as well as mountain driving for van tours.
