This classification is responsible for supervision and administration of the Historical Resources Division, which includes, preserving and protecting Manatee County's past through planning, organizing and directing programs, developing and administering goals and objectives, management of various locations and fiscal accountability.
Note: This position has been designated by the Manatee County Commission as serving at the will and pleasure of the County Administrator. Employees so designated may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Working Conditions
Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance
Job Description
Essential Functions

Administers, directs, coordinates and supervises all county-wide historical resource's locations and programs.
Makes recommendations for, and ensures conformance with, applicable laws, policies, and procedures of the division.
Ensures goals and objectives are met within a timely and effective manner.
Prepares, presents, and administers the division's operating and capital budgets in a cost-effective manner. Prepares and maintains related monthly statistical reports.
Responsible for monitoring and reporting needs (facilities, staff, etc.) of the Historical Resource Division to appropriate authorities in a timely and appropriate manner to ensure continuous smooth operation of the division.
Represents the County at numerous local veteran and civic organizations; makes public presentations in a professional proactive manner. Engages with local schools and non-profits to coordinate, promote and expand partner-based programming.
Works with Information Outreach Department for all marketing materials to highlight each location throughout the county.
Works with the Director and the Property Management Department's Parks Maintenance Division Manager in preparation of grants.
Serves as liaison to the Project Management Division of the Property Management Department for related projects.
Manages Capital Improvement Projects for the Historical Resources Division, with an emphasis on maintaining flexibility in hours of operation and programming to accommodate projects while minimizing impact to user groups.
Oversees the budgetary and implementation aspects associated with Historical Resources Division.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in historic preservation, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Minimum of four (4) years' experience in historical resource programming.
Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
