Duties

Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Army Futures Command (AFC) Command Historian and advisor to the AFC's Commanding General's principal advisor on matters pertaining to history of AFC, to include overseeing the development of command-wide historical research collections and historical information retrieval systems.
Responsibilities

Coordinate with the Center of Military History, AFC commands, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations and agencies to integrate AFC collection and retrieval efforts with U.S. Army and other systems.
Formulates, and participates in, the execution of plans and procedures necessary for the preparation of an Annual Historical Review for AFC.
Conduct extensive, complex research, demonstrating superior professional ability in developing methods of presentation and analysis.
Plans and conduct a comprehensive oral history, and digital history program in support of the commands leadership and mission.
Coordinate for the recording and transcription of historically significant briefings and presentations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Basic Requirement for a Historian:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience for the GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting with historical organization studies and projects; 2) Conducting factual analysis on organizational research material; 3) Preparing historical reports and documenting organizational history; 4) Assist in the editing of historical organization publications; 5) Representing an organization at events, conferences, and/or seminars. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Specialized Experience for the GS-14: 1) Planning and conducting various historical organizational studies and projects; 2) Conducting factual analysis on organizational research material; 3) Preparing historical reports and documenting organizational history; 4) Editing historical organization publications; 5) Representing an organization at events, conferences, and/or seminars.
