Duties

Summary

You will serve as a Histopathology Technician in the Clinical Pathology department of NAVMEDCEN PORTSMOUTH VA.
Responsibilities

You will receive, log, file, and prepare specimens for examination based on established laboratory protocol.
You will clean and maintain laboratory equipment and spaces as well as stock required supplies.
You will use automated and/or computer systems to maintain identity of specimens and perform related duties.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Receiving and logging medical specimens or similar samples and information.
Cleaning and maintaining medical, laboratory, or similar equipment and spaces.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to this position OR Successful completion of 2 academic years of study that included at least 24 semester hours in chemistry and/or in appropriate fields of biological science and successful completion of a 12-month program of education, training, and supervised experience in cytotechnology or histopathology that has been approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
