Providence is calling a Histology Technician II (Anatomic Pathology, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours a week) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Perform histology procedures including embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining (routine, special and immunohistochemical) of surgical tissue specimens.
Cut tissue specimens appropriately and effectively while meeting priority needs and requests.
Generate and complete worksheets, temperature logs, workload entry and equipment maintenance logs.
File paraffin tissue blocks and slides, prepares materials for off-site storage.
Perform quality control tasks, puts away reagents and supplies and performs inventory as requested.
Use knowledge and experience to troubleshoot technical procedures within the area of training and experience.
Assist in the pathology office, gross area and cytology as necessary.
Communicate with physicians and coworkers regarding work in progress, quality issues, special requests, turn around times and other pertinent information.
Comply with lab and hospital safety procedures and practices Body Substance Isolation. Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for job.
Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree from an accredited program with 12 semester (18 quarter hours) hours in biology and chemistry -OR- At least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) -OR- Completion of a certified histology program approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Current ASCP Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification.
One (1) year experience as a HT I or as a histotechnician / histotechnologist in a hospital histology lab or similar setting.
