Overview Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Histology Technician I to be responsible for producing histologic preparations to be used for clinical research.

First of two-level series of Histology Technicians. This level is distinguished by developing proficiency conducting tasks and assignments as directed. Contributes to team objectives and outcomes as guided with moderate supervision that allows some latitude for independent judgment.

Limited problem-solving responsibility while working under defined guidelines. This position will be in support of Gynecologic Cancer Center of Excellence (GYN-COE). The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.

We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities Under supervision, will perform tissue processing, frozen sectioning, paraffin embedding, labeling, microtomy, hematoxylin and eosin staining, and cover slipping following standard operating procedures.

Prepares routine research sample histologic preparations using standard procedures in accordance with guidelines established in a clinical research protocol. Logs specimens and performs a variety of routing histological procedures.

Performs and documents all histology laboratory related Quality Control. Assists in gathering and recording data for research protocols. Prepares solutions and maintains laboratory equipment.

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree Minimum of 0-2 years experience required Licenses and Certifications Registered by the ASCP Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Competency in paraffin and frozen microtomy, embedding and staining of fixed tissues.

Maintains effective communication including verbal and written skills, and articulate concerns and updates in a professional manner. Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner. Works proficiently in a fluctuating work environment, including maintaining productivity during laboratory down-time.

Embraces new duties when needed, following appropriate instruction and supervision. Performs basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office. Understands and articulates basic medical terminology and laboratory functions.

Eligible for ASCP Certification Physical Capabilities Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
