The Histotechnician/Histotechnologist is responsible for cutting, staining and preparing tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner and maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalent required or graduate of a technical training school in histology and/or HT or HTL (ASCP) eligible. Must meet the requirements for a Histology Technician or Technologist as specified by the Rules of Regulations of the Georgia Department of Human Resources Laboratory Licensure Division (refer to GDHR Department of Community Health Healthcare Facility Clinical Laboratory regulations.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three years of technical experience in a surgical pathology laboratory, if not a graduate of a technical training school in histology.
Certification as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations.
