Essential Histology Assistant job functions and responsibilities:
Processes tissues to cut, stain, embed, accession and prepares slides for examination accurately.
Processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination, identifies, prepares, cuts and stains tissue for pathologist, under the supervision of pathologist and histotechs.
Performs automated and manual testing.
Assesses specimen integrity ensuring appropriate identification.
Performs and documents QC, instrument maintenance and calibration as indicated by policy.
Monitors specimen integrity and ensures acceptable levels of performance.
Pick up gross specimens in a timely manner and accurately prepares sections of tissue for slide preparation.
Demonstrates correct technique to prepare hematoxylin and eosin slides.
Prepares solutions according to procedure manual.
Assists pathologist with frozen sections with accuracy.
Performs special stains with accuracy.
Prepares send outs accurately.
Enters information into LIS with accuracy.
Other duties as assigned.
