Histology Assistant Clinical Laboratory Per Diem Days

Summary

The Histology Assistant receives and accurately processes surgical, diagnostic tissue, or body fluid specimens from various hospital departments and physician offices. Accurately prepares histological slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist, Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains and preserves specimens in such a manner as assist the pathologist to render a reliable diagnosis. Maintains Pathology laboratory equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

Minimum Experience

• 1 year experience

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic computer skills

• Use of Pathology specific equipment

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions:

• Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and chemicals.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

• Frequently required to lift 5-40 lbs

• Occasionally may lift greater than 40 lbs with assistance of staff member and /or approved lifting device

• Frequently required to operate standard office machines, computers and telephone

• Frequently required to walk, bend, push, pull and stand.

• Required to have adequate vision and hearing
