SEEKING NYS LICENSED HISTOLOGISTS/CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS! Must have NYS license upon applying.

Description:

Summary: Follows standard established procedures, processes and stains tissue for examination and receives a diagnosis by a Pathologist while under general supervision by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1.Embeds, cuts, stains histologic sections from surgical tissues for microscope examination by a Pathologist.*

2.Maintains positive identification of all specimens throughout the process cycle.*

3.Prepares gross surgical specimens.*

4.Prepares a variety of special stains and solutions and uses them in the differential staining

of tissue cell structures using appropriate procedures.*

5.Maintains and compiles all necessary records and reports.*

6.Performs and documents all necessary quality control procedures to insure the reliability of all results.*

7.Counts and records workload and other statistics.*

8.Performs and documents all necessary instrument checks and preventative/ routine maintenance.*

9.Maintains current knowledge of the field by attendance at meetings, seminars and lectures and by keeping abreast of current literature pertinent to the field.*

10. Attends all mandatory in-service presentations including safety, right-to-know and hazardous substance handling.*

11. Respects patient confidentiality both at work and outside of the working environment.*

12. Washes glassware.

13. Logs surgical specimens, labels slides, files slides and specimen blocks and maintains positive

identification of all specimens throughout the process cycle.

Skills & Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university preferred with a science emphasis

Associate's degree (A.A.) in a science based program; One year of experience in a lab preferred.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge.

Certificates and Licenses:

Clinical laboratory technician or histology technician license in NYS
