REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Manager of Health Information Management (Operations & Auditing)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The function of the HIM Technician is to demonstrate competency in both quality and productivity for their assigned base job, demonstrate competency in the electronic record processing (bookmarks, scanning, quality checks). Must demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA guidelines in regard to record release. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Successfully pass the Level II competency skills test to show basic understanding of functions of HIM Clerk core job duties with 100% accuracy within 1 year required.
Basic typing/computer course preferred
Medical terminology and/or anatomy course preferred
Licensure:
Experience:
Three (3) years HIM experience preferred
Electronic Health Record Specialist preferred
Interpersonal Skills:
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
Ability to utilize Health Data software with average to above average computer skills with knowledge of data entry.
Hand/eye coordination is required to retrieve and file material.
Ability to access and utilize up to 8 different computer software programs
Essential Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time (up to eight hours per day required).
Pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 30 pounds required.
Bending, squatting, climbing, and reaching above shoulder level frequently required.
Grasping ability required when performing repetitive activities.
Essential Mental Requirements:
Must demonstrate exceptional analytical skills.
Must be able to sit and concentrate for 6-8 hours per day.
Must have attention for detail and be able to analyze data for accuracy and completeness based on set standards.
Must be able to cope with deadlines and meet productivity and quality expectations.
Ability to understand written and verbal directions.
Ability to memorize routine assignments, interpret numbers, organize, and file both manually and electronically.
Must be able to retain knowledge to identify medical reports, ancillary tests and basic medical terms used to identify parts of a medical record.
Essential Sensory Requirements:
Must have good vision to view and interpret data on a computer screen and read medical information so that dictated records can be appropriately filed in the correct location.
Ability to hear and speak clearly for face-to-face and telephone communication.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1.Operates office equipment, including fax machines, copier, computer terminals, lab printer, fiche machine and microfilm equipment.
2.Operates all health data software currently used in our electronic record process, record retrieval and record tracking.
3.Answers telephone and completes written requests for information as per procedure.
4.Prepare electronic documents for audits or record release by printing or copying to a CD.
5.Complete productivity and goal sheets as directed.
6.Assists in management of portal and responsible for working with clients in setting up portal and resolving their issues.
7.Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
