Sampson Regional Medical Center is hiring a HIM Charge Analyst to join the join the HIM team!

Description:

This is a full-time position. The selected candidate for this position will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and assigning CPT codes as outlined by coding guidelines; maintaining quality and ethical coding standards; works with nurse managers to ensure all CPT codes can be accurately and completely captured; codes to the highest level of specificity to accurately depict the clinical picture; must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given; this position will serve as back up to the birth registry.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree or a minimum of 2 years college education in Health Information Management/Technology or related field preferred.

  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.

  • Licensed Notary of State of NC, required.

  • Knowledge of coding (ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS) coding guidelines.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend medical dictation and other medical documentation found in the body of the medical record.

  • Knowledgeable in reimbursement systems such as APC's, DRG's and payers such as Medicare Medicaid.

  • Ability to train coders

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communication with medical staff, other members of the health care team as well as customers.

  • Strong computer skills, including: Word, Excel/Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills essential.

  • Ability to multi-task and well organized.

Description: This is a full-time position typically working 8 hours a day. The selected applicant will ensure adherence to established standards and may consult with managers and other stakeholders on technology implementations and support. This role supports existing applications (Meditech) and may be responsible for leading technical aspects of a project. Additional responsibilities include consulting with Supervisors, Project Managers and colleagues in the requirements definitions phase to determine functional specifications; provide information to ensure that all parties have a complete understanding of the application and resolve questions of system content, data input and data output requirements; interface between applications components and diagrams detailed workflow charts to illustrate the sequence of steps that the program must follow; and, have a vast understanding of clinical workflow and use clinical workflow knowledge to implement the system to ensure end user efficiency is not compromised. This position requires interaction with end users (physicians, radiologists, nurses and other hospital departments) and SRMC's third party vendors. The MIS Clinical Analyst must develop relationships and communication channels to ensure status feedback and cooperation among these groups and will ensure that all services are performed professionally from start to finish, delivering complete customer satisfaction. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or equivalent discipline is desired, but not required. Equivalent experience and knowledge is completely acceptable in lieu of a degree. Two years Nursing, Information Systems or Analytical field and experience may be considered. * Licensed Registered Nurse (RN), Sonographer, Respiratory Therapist, PA or NP preferred. * Minimum two years' experience in healthcare or area applicable area of concentration. * Firm knowledge of information systems and system analysis * Experience in report writing tools and methodologies. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report troubleshooting ability.
