By joining our Larue County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Larue County, you'll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance operations.
Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:
Hauling materials to and from job sites.
Operating dump trucks with snowplow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
Operating a tractor-type mowing machine, assisting with brush cutting, and using chemical sprayers.
Learning and assisting with basic surveying activities on construction projects.
Flagging for operations requiring traffic control.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates.
Experience in equipment operations for road maintenance.
Experience completing shift or on-call schedules.
Experience in equipment operations for road maintenance.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
Basic equipment operating experience.
Basic maintenance or construction experience.
Experience preforming preventative maintenance on vehicles or equipment.
Additional position information:
Incumbents in this job title should possess the ability to work sit, stoop, and bend.
Required to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Required to respond to emergencies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Employee in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority, within 12 months of employment in this job classification, documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
