Proficiency and certification in the operation of heavy highway maintenance equipment will result in eligibility for promotion to a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior at $17.55 per hour. Examples of Work

Operates specialized equipment working on the Bridge/Striping Crew such as pavement stripers, semitruck trailers, arrow board truck, hydro platform, concrete screed and jackhammers. Safely moves, drags, lifts, loads and unloads various equipment, materials such as paint beads, paint, supplies and hazardous materials or objects from the roadway within weight restrictions; spreads and tamps surfacing materials.

Identifies preventative maintenance needs for assigned equipment and participates with other agency employees in equipment servicing and repair; maintains grounds and buildings of maintenance yards. Operates all types of highway or other maintenance equipment such as: trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, tractors, motor graders, snowplows, snowblowers, draglines, backhoes and distributors, etc. Patches roadways, other broad pavement surfaces and structures; repairs signs; erects and removes snow fences; repairs bridges, culverts and other structures. Works in all types of weather, Payroll Detail System (timesheet data entry).

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Experience in the operation of heavy equipment and/or farm equipment.

Basic computer experience. Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.

OTHER: A valid Class A Commercial Drivers license with tanker endorsement is required within 60 days.

Must be a safe worker that is team oriented. Regular and reliable attendance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend or stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high speed traffic. Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.

Ability to communicate effectively. Must be able to report to work for snow and other highway emergencies within 40 minutes under normal driving conditions and be placed in an "on-call" status.

Job location is 1500 HIghway 2 Examples of Work The Plan Development Unit's (PDU) mission is to create plans in a timely manner for the project delivery goal of NDOT. This position creates title sheets, summary of quantity sheets, typical sheets, plan & profile sheets and other sheets for the plan package. The project can then be let and built to meet the asset management and safety goals of the department. Responsibilities include: Support the Roadway Design Division by producing sheets listed above for preliminary thru letting plans for all Roadway Design Projects. Creating Title Sheets and Summary of Quantity Sheets for NDOT projects; this includes working with the Materials and Research Division (M&R) surfacing unit and M&R Local Projects & Consultant Projects. Communicate effectively with people in the department. Work with roadway designers to create the project plans. After required skills have been achieved, assist co-workers /technicians to create plans following the guidelines set by NDOT. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Experience in civil drafting and/or design. PREFERRED: Graduation from a recognized two year Technical Community College. Experience in Civil Drafting with Microstation or AutoCad. OTHER: No overnight travel anticipated. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to read and create highway project plan sets. Experience using MicroStation or AutoCad.
