Where will I be on the pay scale? If you are not currently a Western journeyman in the occupation advertised, you will receive entry-level pay with the possibility of promotion to full journeyman status after meeting certification and performance requirements (generally within 3-6 months).

This is a TERM appointment, scheduled to last at least 1 year and may be extended up to four years.

Erect and repair transmission/distribution power lines. Inspect electric power transmission lines including steel towers and wood poles from vehicles, on foot, or from aircraft.

Inspect for damage to wood poles, cross arms, grounds, X-braces, loose bolts, broken or flashed insulators, missing or damaged vibration dampers, damaged or missing spacer dampers, damaged conductors or overhead ground wires, bent or missing steel members, and missing cotter keys. Maintain records of deficiencies either on patrol sheets or electronically. Install and replace poles, cross arms, line hardware, lightning arresters, fiber optic, and auxiliary equipment.

String conductor, optical ground wire (OPGW), and fiber optic cable from structure to structure; splice conductor when broken; replace poles; and work on energized lines requiring the use of hotline tools and bare hand techniques. Repair requiring power outages are scheduled and coordinated by others. Climb transmission structures averaging 65 feet, but up to 500 feet on occasion, and communication towers up to 400 feet.

Travel Required
75% or less - Overnight travel maybe required 11 or more days per month.

You must have journeyman-level ability in the duties of an Lineman. You must meet all the qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS Your application and resume should demonstrate that you possess the following abilities. You are NOT required to provide a separate narrative written response. Rather, you must describe in your application how your past work experience demonstrates that you possess those described below.

You must have journeyman-level ability in the duties of a Lineman.

You must have the ability to climb transmission structures up to 200 feet in height, or you will not be considered for this position.

Ability to do journeyman lineman work constructing and maintaining transmission or distribution power lines (69KV or higher) and related equipment, without more than normal supervision.(Screen out)

Knowledge of electrical line construction, operations, maintenance, and technical practices of a journeyman lineman.

Knowledge of electrical theory and instruments and ability to do journeyman lineman troubleshooting.

Ability to use electrical drawings and specifications, and to interpret instructions.

Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the job of journeyman lineman.

Ability to climb structures and work at heights.

Ability to work safely; knowledge of safe work practices.
