NOTICE OF VACANCY
HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
At the end of June 2019, after 34 years of service in Township High School District 211, Mr. Gary Steiger will retire from his position as Principal of Palatine High School. This will create an opening for a principal, effective July 1, 2019.
Steiger began his District 211 career in 1985 as a science teacher at William Fremd High School, where he also served as an assistant football and baseball coach. In 1994, he became an assistant principal at Fremd High School and moved to Palatine High School as a twelve-month assistant principal the following year.
In 2000, Mr.
Steiger was appointed as an assistant principal at Conant High School. Mr.
Steiger was named principal at Palatine High School in 2002. As principal at Palatine High School, he has seen the school's student population change significantly. As the needs of Palatine's school community have changed over the years, Mr.
Steiger has provided leadership to maintain academic rigor while building a positive school environment. Mr.
Steiger has created a true community of teachers, staff, and parents that works together to meet the diverse needs of the students at Palatine High School.
Steiger graduated from Augustana College in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry, physics, and secondary education. He earned his master's degree in educational psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1990, secured his administrative certification in 1994 through Northern Illinois University, and completed a certificate of advanced study from Roosevelt University in 2003. Mr.
Steiger has also served as an adjunct instructor for Roosevelt University.
Steiger's dedication and service to the students, faculty, and community of Palatine High School garnered statewide recognition, as he received an Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel Award in 2015. Additionally, the Illinois Principals Association named Mr.
Steiger the 2015-2016 High School Principal of the Year.
Steiger has been an advocate for all students, and he is spirited and a beloved presence at Palatine High School. His enthusiasm for teaching and learning, paired with his devotion to the entire student body, has benefited the students, staff, and community at Palatine High School.
