POSITION SUMMARY: This position is tasked to carry out the mandates of the Instructional Program of Old Redford Academy ( Academy ), in Detroit, Michigan.
CRITICAL COMPONENTS Major Duties: Administrative and Management Ensure the Academy makes and maintains Adequate Yearly Progress.
Ensure practices that will meet academic goals.
Maintain state and/or NCA accreditation.
Supervise and evaluate Administrative School Team.
Assess, monitor and request all necessary instructional material for learning to take place (textbooks, supplemental materials, etc.). Assist with employee selection process for instructional staff.
Verify and ensure that instructional materials are ordered, inventoried, received by the Academy and distributed to all necessary parties in a proper and timely manner.
Utilize cost effective practices at all times.
Ensure staff is properly trained on student code of conduct.
Conduct staff meetings.
Organize the Academys day-to-day functions.
Ensure Academy Board policies and directives are followed in relation to Academy policies and guidelines.
Effectively conduct classroom observations and evaluations of instructional staff.
Cooperatively and professionally perform any tasks assigned that promote the Academys mission statement.
Ensure discipline packets are thorough and complete prior to signing recommendation.
Review field trip requests to ensure educational objective.
Effectively demonstrate knowledge of and ensure compliance with teacher labor contract.
Ensure staff is following all policies, guidelines and procedures as directed by governing entities.
Review and ensure timely submission of requisitions to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Thoroughly review written requests/proposals prior to submitting to the Central Office.
Maintain rapport with students, parents, subordinates and management.
Ensure Academy-sponsored events/programs are thoroughly and properly planned in advance.
Maintain proper leadership of all building communication.
Attend management and Academy Board meetings; in this positions absence, the Dean of Students will attend.
Timely and accurate submission of all tasks and assignments.
Respond to all levels of supervision.
It is the responsibility of this position to report any educational or safety issues to the appropriate party for resolution.
If resolution does not occur, this position is further responsible to make this situation or problem known to a higher level of management or supervision.
Failure to do so could result in disciplinary actions.
NON-CRITICAL COMPONENTS:
Leadership Represent the Academys mission in an effective manner, generating public support for the Academys program.
Serve as a role model for moral and ethical growth and socialization of the children.
Develop new ideas that promote and foster student character.
Work with parents and citizens in resolving community issues; establish positive relationships that support the Academys mission.
Establish and promote cohesiveness among staff members to work toward a common goal.
Encourage the leadership of others.
Other Duties Include Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
Demonstrate clear, concise and correct written and oral communication.
Report to work on time daily.
Work in close communication with the Compliance Specialist, Educational Coordinator and the Financial Specialist.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
5-10 years of classroom teaching experience.
Management/leadership skills.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Academy.
Criminal background check required.
To the extent this position is deemed to be an administrator of instructional programs (including the supervisor of certified teachers) and/or a chief business official, this position is required to meet one of the following: (1) if the individual held a school administrator position before January 4, 2010, then evidence of maintaining continuing education is required; or (2) if the individual was hired as school administrator after January 4, 2010, then either: (a) an Administrator Certificate is required; OR (b) enrollment in a Michigan Department of Education ( MDE )-approved Principal Preparation Program within 6 months of employment (and completion within 3 years) is required.

DATA COLLECTOR - SCHOOL SURVEYS 2019 NATIONAL YOUTH TOBACCO SURVEY (NYTS) TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT, JANUARY—MAY 2019 ICF is seeking one field data collection staff person in Detroit, Michigan for the National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS). The NYTS documents tobacco-related beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors, and exposure to influences that promote or discourage tobacco use among students in grades 6-12 and is sponsored by the CDC, Office on Smoking and Health (OSH). Field Staff training for will occur January 28-January 30, 2019 at the Rockville, MD office of ICF. Data collection will immediately follow training for approximately 8-10 weeks. If you have an interest in the health behavior of adolescents and can commit yourself full-time, you may be a good fit for this field staff position. This is an opportunity to be involved in an important survey on topics of utmost importance to the nation. If hired, you will work in various locations around the country. You may be on the road for one or more weeks at a time without returning home. Some locations may be in your state, while others will be in one or more other states. The travel requirement is NOT negotiable. This position is NOT recommended for students enrolled in spring semester courses that require weekly class attendance or for those who for other reasons need to go home on a scheduled weekly basis. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Act as on-site liaison with school personnel, working with school administrators, teachers, etc. * Work independently or as a member of a survey administration team * Receive assignments via the Internet-based project system * Travel among schools in assigned locations and report regularly to Survey Supervisor * Administer an electronic tablet based survey to students in 1-8 classes per school * Perform quality control on the collected information and transfer data, following established protocols * Complete required documentation for each visited school via an online system * Coordinate scheduling and follow-up for the conduct of makeup surveys, as required * Transport, synchronize, charge and update survey collection tablets * Maintain expense logs and progress reports DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * College graduate. Ideal for retired teachers, school administrators, and current graduate/thesis students able to work full-time with no travel restrictions * Familiarity and comfort using an electronic tablet device such as an iPad, Kindle or Samsung Galaxy * Experience working with schools and children, particularly in middle and high school settings * Experience speaking in front of large groups * Experience in field data collection, survey/social science research, sales, or marketing * Computer skills, including navigating the Internet, using web applications, emailing and attaching files REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. of survey materials, including electronic devices and other supplies * Extremely well-organized, with a strong eye for detail * Comfort with technology and troubleshooting common IT errors * Capable of motivating others to cooperate * Ability to adhere to strict time schedules and arrive on time and prepared for all appointments * Professional appearance and demeanor * Have a cell phone for use in the field * High degree of self-confidence and the ability to deal with difficult situations in a calm/professional manner * Have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle in good condition that you do not share with others * Ability and willingness to travel by yourself * Have a valid major credit card, with available funds for travel expenses incurred * Ability to read aloud in a clear speaking voice in front of a large group * Ability to stay away from home for 1 or more week at a time PAYMENT FOR TRAINING: Assuming completion of all three days of training (January 28-30, 2019), additional tasks immediately after training, and acceptable performance during training, you may expect to be paid $720 pre-tax. If you are required to travel to training by air, rail, or bus, the cost of coach-class fare will be pre-paid for your transportation to ICF's Headquarters in Rockville, MD. ICF will also pre-pay for a hotel room for your stay at training. PAYMENT FOR DATA COLLECTION: Assuming acceptable performance, you can expect to work on a temporary, on-call basis for approximately 8-10 weeks; with 8 weeks of guaranteed pay (at $720 pre-tax, based on 40 hours) for weeks that you have assignments. The eight guaranteed weeks may not be consecutive due to school calendars.There may be additional opportunities to extend survey administration beyond ten weeks, depending on acceptable performance and school scheduling needs. Your pay includes compensation for your time to do the following: (1) make advance calls to schools before the date of data collection; (2) organize the survey materials before going to the school; (3) travel to and from the school; (4) meet with the school contact and teacher(s) and survey students; (5) review the survey materials and tablets after every administration; (6) update the project's online system with collection details; (7) upload and synchronize collected data; (8) follow up with the school about the return of make-ups, missing classes and/or forms; and (9) maintain communication with your supervisor. For travel in your vehicle to conduct the survey work, you will be reimbursed according to the federal government privately owned vehicle mileage reimbursement rate, which is currently at $0.545 per mile, plus tolls and parking. In addition, all your allowable travel expenses at locations away from home will be reimbursed within the allowable federal government per diem guidelines.
