Job Description
The High School Math Achievement Manager will serve as an integral member of the KIPP New Orleans Academics Team. The purpose of the High School Academics Team at KIPP New Orleans is to work with School Leaders to drive student achievement and the KNOS academic vision. We achieve this purpose through developing excellent teachers, supporting great coaching, providing world-class curriculum and being relentless about progress monitoring.
Responsibilities
World-Class Curriculum and Assessment Development
Creates, adapts, and/or develops curriculum and assessments that are aligned with federal, state, and college/career requirements
Creates supports to meet the needs of students in specific area of focus and provides materials and instructional plan to serve special populations (e.g., special education, credit deficient, ELL)
Incorporates practices that support students' behavioral, social, and emotional development
Designs program offerings across schools to drive educational equity
Professional Development
Structures, sequences, and delivers program-specific professional development to ensure effective program implementation
Provides support to instructional leaders and teachers on implementation of a rigorous, world-class curriculum so that all students can access the content
Identifies trends in student performance data in program to inform continuous improvement of professional development
Periodically serves as an exemplar and "lab site" teacher for others to observe
Delivers feedback and hard conversations with program staff
Invests in developing team members to grow into future department leaders, providing stretch opportunities and chances for professional growth
Monitors and assists with development and implementation of individual career development plans
Monitor Implementation
Co-observes with school-based instructional leaders to identify trends in implementation of the curriculum and plan effective supports
Promotes strong academic culture throughout sphere of influence, ensuring team focuses all activities on improving student outcomes in college, career, and civic readiness
Allocates resources throughout program to ensure program vision can be implemented in line with academic model
Makes program decisions, considering implications for students, teachers, administrators, parents, and broader community
Seeks input from academics team leaders, school leaders, and other key constituents in making effective decisions
Supports implementation of performance evaluation system across team, ensuring key competencies for effective instructional delivery are appropriately assessed In area of focus
Identify trends in Student Achievement and Share Learnings
Reviews student achievement data and student work and provides analysis of trends (and tools to respond to data) to teachers and leaders
Adjusts programming to better prepare students for success in college and careers.
Defines and monitors key metrics to measure program effectiveness
Benchmarks program performance against peer organizations
Improves curriculum and instructional coaching
Videotapes bright-spot teachers
Qualifications
The following are required of all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:
Bachelor's degree
3-5 years teaching experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary level
Successful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background Check
Personal affinity to our mission and vision, as well as demonstrated commitment to our 5 core beliefs - Relentlessness, Equity, Achievement, Community, and Hope
Instructional Leadership: Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data
Instructional Leadership: Expertise in what the school-wide academic standards and state assessments require of students' knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery; able to translate student mastery requirements into instructional plans and strategies
Instructional Leadership: Deep understanding of appropriate application and differentiation of high-leverage instructional strategies (e.g. make kids do the heavy lifting, pacing, stretch-it, etc.) based on comprehension of child development and pedagogy
Instructional Leadership: Command of instructional design and the benefits and tradeoffs of school design decisions in driving student achievement
Achievement Orientation: Demonstrated resilience and focus on student outcomes
Student Focus: Belief that all students, regardless of background, have the ability to go to and through college; demonstrated commitment to the school's unique community
Talent Development: Demonstrated success in developing leadership capacity in others
Cultural Competence: Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives
Performance Management: Demonstrated student achievement results from teachers and leaders that he/she manages and coaches
Direction Setting: Ability to set direction across an entire school and motivate others to action
Provide documentation of either 1) received a COVID-19 vaccination or 2) have requested, and been granted, reasonable accommodation from the KNOS Director of Human Resources to be exempted from the requirements of this policy
The following are strongly preferred for all KIPP New Orleans Achievement Managers:
Masters in Education or aligned content
3-5 years teaching experience with at least 2 years of leadership experience in urban, open enrollment schools and demonstrated student results at an exemplary level in both roles
State issued teaching credential
The physical demands and environmental conditions described below are representative, but not exhaustive, of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role. Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
Must be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodations
Ability to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as cafeterias and playgrounds, to more moderate situations such as classrooms or large group professional settings
Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
Ability to handle potential high stress conditions
