REPORTS TO: Building Principal
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 Month
FUNCTION
The Instructional Aide (ISS) assists one or more teachers in specialized activities pertaining to instruction, preparation, management and/or supervision of students.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Demonstrated aptitude (i.e. bilingualism, computer literacy) for the work to be performed.
Course work and/or knowledge of basic education theory and methodology as it relates to duties of the position.
Familiarity with pertinent program requirements, compliance issues etc.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively to organize and deliver supplemental programs of study in support of regular and/or special education programs.
Ability to relate cordially with staff and students.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
RELATED PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate, and often continuous, noise levels.
Close vision and focusing requirements.
Continuous responsibility for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
Occasional stooping, bending, climbing, outdoor supervision.
Lifting, maneuvering, placing loads (25-30 lbs.) i.e., records, supplies, etc.
Sitting/standing/monitoring students for extended periods of time.
GENERAL RESPOSSIBILITIES
Coordinate with teachers in developing supplemental instructional programs and devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills, based on an understanding of individual students' needs, interests and abilities.
Plan, organize and complete duties applicable to the position.
Prepare materials for specialized instructional activities.
Supervise activities of students; maintain discipline and other functions as appropriate.
Work as a "team player" with all participants in the educational community.
Supervise independent study, enrichment work and remedial work.
Evaluate student progress; recommend areas of improvement.
Orient teachers to problems or special information about individual students as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality.
Maintain records; handle reports and clerical functions related to the position.
Maintain an attractive and stimulating learning environment.
Operate standard school equipment.
Participate in staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hourly wages, Working Agreement. Salary as determined by the Board of Education.
Annual evaluation in accordance with Board of Education policy.
