HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND STUDENT SUPPORT COUNSELOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years of successful teaching or counseling experience at the secondary level;

  • Degree in School Counseling

  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and success in working with at-risk students;

  • Understanding of Michigan Merit Curriculum and graduation requirements;

  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills;

  • Ability to access and analyze assessment data;

  • Strong organizational and computer skills;

  • Strong understanding of Dual Enrollment and Early College opportunities.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with at-risk students and their families successfully;

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students;

  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with other teachers and administrators;

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain trust and confidentiality;

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate programs and solve problems;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide intensive support to students who are in danger of failing to graduate high school on time;

  • Track individual students' grades to intervene as soon as possible once students fail classes;

  • In cooperation with administrators, counselors, teachers, students, and parents, develop and implement specific individual plans to enable students to get back on track in order to graduate on time;

  • Maintain frequent contact with at-risk students, their teachers, and their parents;

  • Analyze and communicate achievement data, including grades and test scores, to administrators and teachers to improve student achievement;

  • Work with school administrators and teachers to develop, implement, and analyze the success of intervention classes and programs;

  • Attend meetings, develop and present professional development, prepare forms, keep records, and prepare reports as necessary;

  • Analyze transcripts, identify any discrepancies, and plan for on-time graduation;

  • Review all transcripts with counselors and principal before graduation;

  • Coordinate credit recovery programming (night/summer school)

  • Lead and develop cooperation agreements between skilled work-based programs and dual enrollment opportunities;

  • Develop and host college and job fairs;

  • Support the Crestwood High School Hybrid Program.

  • the employee must sit and stand for long periods.

  • The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.

  • The employee must be able to move about the assigned location unaided during the day.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

EVALUATION: Annual

SALARY: Commensurate with Teaching Contract Salary Schedule

This position is being paid for out of Title Funding

EFFECTIVE DATE: 2024/2025 School Year
