Provide College and Career Readiness ABE/HSE/AHS instruction and assessment based on each student's individual academic needs. Provide College and Career Readiness instruction to prepare at-risk students and displaced workers for higher education and/or entry to the job market. Provide an individualized self-paced program designed to assist students in meeting their individual goals. Facilitate instruction to build student's academic skills and when academically ready prepare them for the HSE test. Maintain portfolios on each student, hold student conferences and accurately document student attendance and academic progress. Perform required part-time faculty responsibilities.
NOTE: The purpose of a continuous recruitment posting is to build a pool of interested applicants should the need for additional adjuncts arise due to student enrollment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The HSE/ABE instructor reports to the Coordinator over their specific area and the Director of College and Career Readiness and HRD. Each instructor is responsible for these specific duties:
1.Providing instruction for College and Career Readiness students according to their assigned areas of responsibility, High School Equivalency (HSE)/Adult Basic Education (ABE).
2.Developing course outlines/lesson plans which follow NC Content Standards. Prepare daily lesson plans as a guide for instruction for the regular instructor or a substitute when necessary
3.Securing the appropriate educational resources (textbooks, software, equipment, etc.) to offer alternative instructional approaches to the diverse learning styles of adult students
4.Submitting a list of supplies/materials needed for the classroom to the coordinator in the assigned area
5.Assessing students and planning their individual programs of study
6.Maintaining files on students to document their progress in their programs of study
7.Tracking student hours in order to post test students and obtain education functioning level gains for our performance measures
8.Completing student data forms required by the state Literacy Education Information System (LEIS) and submitting them to the CCR Data Coordinator
9.Completing and submitting an original pay and attendance sheet to the College and Career Readiness Chief HSE Examiner/AHS Coordinator on campus on the first day of each month in order to get paid at the end of the month
Entering student hours daily through Self-Service in order to track student attendance
Follow up on students that have no placement tests or post tests and the ones that have left the program before completing their educational goals
Attending College and Career Readiness staff meetings, professional in-service meetings, workshops, conferences, and other staff development activities as requested
Participating actively in the college planning process and serving on college committees as assigned
Complete twelve hours of professional development annually
Complete a CORE, ASE, ESOL, or STAR professional development credential within two years from hire date
Adhering to the College and Career Readiness Calendar
Completing other duties and assignments as directed
Agree to keep all student information confidential
Maintain a clean and safe work area

Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Adult Education with teaching experience
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Teaching certificate if available; other certifications and licenses that would be helpful in teaching a particular subject area
