The Dougherty County School System is seeking a High School ELA teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature, writing, and language arts education, with the ability to inspire and engage students in the study of English language and literature. This position offers the opportunity to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment where students can develop critical thinking, communication skills, and a love for reading and writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors' degree or higher;

  • Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver Eligible;

  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;

  • Ability to relate to and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect;

  • Ability to effectively navigate and utilize a wide range of educational and career-related technology tools, software applications, and digital platforms while engaging students;

  • Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;

  • Completes all records and reports on time and with accuracy;

  • Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;

  • Develops and implements engaging and rigorous lesson plans that align with ELA curriculum standards and educational objectives;

  • Selects and adapts appropriate texts, resources, and instructional materials to support student learning and foster a deeper understanding of literature and language;

  • Incorporates a variety of instructional strategies, such as discussion, analysis, writing assignments, and multimedia presentations, to enhance student comprehension and appreciation of English language arts;

  • Teaches the writing process, including prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing, to help students improve their writing fluency, coherence, and effectiveness;

  • Provides constructive feedback and opportunities for revision to help students refine their writing craft and develop their voice as writers;

  • Assesses student learning and achievement through a variety of formative and summative assessments, including essays, projects, presentations, quizzes, and exams;

  • Usees assessment data to inform instructional planning, differentiate instruction, and provide targeted support for students with diverse learning needs;

  • Monitors student progress and academic growth, communicates regularly with students and parents about student performance, and collaborates with colleagues to support student success;

  • Implements effective classroom management strategies to maintain a positive learning atmosphere and address behavioral issues constructively;

  • Collaborates with colleagues to share best practices, resources, and instructional strategies for enhancing ELA instruction;

  • Participates in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends, research, and pedagogical approaches in ELA education;

  • Supervises or assists in the supervision of school activities as assigned;

  • Performs related duties as assigned as circumstances require;

  • Maintains satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument;

  • Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
