Job Purpose Statement:
The High School Culture and Climate Specialist collaborates with the administrative team for the establishment and fostering of a positive and inclusive school culture and climate at the school.

Essential Job Functions (Including but not limited to the following):
Assist in the orientation of students to promote a positive, welcoming atmosphere.

Assist with supervision of students at events and during the school day (before school, lunch and after school) including flexing time to be available for evening events.

Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment

Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date

Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences

Utilize the District's electronic systems and applications related to the job

Clearly and consistently teach behavior expectations for students and appropriately intervenes and applies The Code of Conduct and District Policy. This work will include supporting and advising the suspension and pre-expulsion process.

Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations and assist in the planning, developing and implementing of individual student behavior plans and intervention strategies

Promote an orderly school environment and adhere to state, district, and federal laws and guidelines to keep students healthy and safe.

Apply data to support students, maintain accurate records, and possess knowledge of various types of interventions (e.g. 504's, Individualized Behavior Support, student attendance and so forth)

Engage in and assist with ongoing professional development and is knowledgeable about legal and ethical issues

Communicate effectively with all populations and seek input from others in decision making

Seek appropriate leadership roles and collaborate with others to ensure student and school growth

Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues

Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule.

Assist in organizing school wide assessment and improving student success

Assist with school-wide systems and community outreach events that support student success

Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students and the public in the Hood River County School District and enhances learning.

Observe laws, district policies and procedures, and professional standards for this position.

Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, parent and community populations

Carry out work responsibilities with strong organizational skills, effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.

Respect and maintain confidential information and the privacy of students, staff and parents.

Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods.

Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.

Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.

Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.

Understanding of the following systems and practices: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), Multiple Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Trauma Informed, Restorative Practices, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies, Behavior Support Plan (BSP) monitoring

Job Requirements:

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance. Strong leadership skills and experience working effectively with students, parents, and teachers; Strong teaching background; Strong communication skills; Experience working as part of an educational team
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects. Understanding of the following systems and practices: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), Multiple Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Trauma Informed, Restorative Practices, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies, Behavior Support Plan (BSP) monitoring
Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/ field of vision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
Secondary Teaching experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Possess and maintain a valid Oregon Teaching License with high school core subject(s) endorsement
