PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Work with small groups of children identified as at-risk in assigned core subject. Work closely with instructional support coaches, campus administration and faculty, as well as parents, to ensure student learning and academic success.
Critical Reading is a two semester course designed to accelerate reading growth by strengthening comprehension outcomes in the high school grades. In a context of meaningful content, on-going assessment, and focused explicit instruction, students will evaluate fiction and nonfiction texts and multicultural literature of diverse formats (e.g. print media, Web-based texts, fiction and nonfiction books and articles) and genres. In addition students will engage in differentiated learning activities tied to a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts with increasing complexity. Students will demonstrate literacy competence through purposeful application of knowledge and skills from this course, based on individual and collective literacy goals.

Responsibilities
Differentiates instruction based on assessment data.
Documents interventions and progress on each child.
Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Arkansas Department of Education, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects a thorough understanding of student learning.
Designs and implements academic interventions using research-based methodology.
Communicates with school personnel and parents of children regarding reading and/or math level and rate of progress.
Successfully selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials.
Maintains open lines of communication with students, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders.
Engages in professional learning through an ongoing program of knowledge and skill development.
Works collaboratively to achieve the overall purpose of the school's program.
